New aquasource toilet's float cup not moving freely

None of the solutions I've found on the site actually address our specific issue. So here goes the whole story. My husband gutted the bathroom for a remodel so of course removed the toilet for a day or two while he replaced the floor and wall tiles. We just bought the toilet only 4 months ago and it has been working great since he initially installed it. However, now that we reinstalled it the toilet won't fill back up so we only have to slightly touch the top of the arm link and the float mechanism moves a little which makes the water start filling tank. Then the water continues to run...filling all the way up and over the overflow pipe until again we slightly touch the link/adjustment screw then the float pops up where it should be and the water stops. As far as I can see, the issue is with the float not moving freely like its supposed to. We aren't REALLY adjusting the float. After we manually assist the mechanisms a couple flushes then it will do it on its own for several flushes in a row but when it sits idle again then the process starts over. Any ideas?

The flapper may be closing before the tank is dumped completely. You can verify this by observing flushing action with the tank open.

How do you control the size of the water spot?

It is the mechanism in the tank. Take off lid of tank flush toilet and watch what happens.
Does the tank have what looks like a float ball or float cup?
If you have the cup does the little water-hose align with the pipe it runs water into?
Does the cup move down and up easily?
Do you have a chain on the handle that needs adjusting?
There are lots of reasons water lowers in toilet. Need more info you can put in comment tab instead of posting another start post.

I bouught a new fluidmaster 4021GR for the same problem I am having with the new one..toilet flushes but 50% of the time it stops and doesnt fill

When that happens it is usually because the float became caught in the flush handle mechanism. This is due to improper clearance when the unit is installed. As long as the float can move freely in the vertical direction, there should not be an issue with the toilet filling.

Change float level

Possible float adjustment is stripped. Replace float assembly. Or float is making contact with tank or flapper. Observe when flushing and turn assembly to operate freely position and tighten assembly nut under tank to secure.

My toilet won't stop filling up so goes over the

Adjust or replace the float. Odds are its stuck. make sure it moves freely up and down. If you cant see the float "normally located on the left side of tank " adjust screw or nob at the top of tube on left. If you still have trouble, replace or adjust flapper valve [located at the inside bottom center of tank] Adjust with chain hanging from flush handle.

Every winter when it is pretty cold outside my basement toilet will flush, but not refill. Through the night, spontaneously, it will finish refilling. I have my suspicions, but I'm looking for the easiest...

Is the float mechanism moving freely once it gets colder water inside? If not, replace the valve kit inside the tank...colder water should not make a difference.

Not enough water in the bowl

The fill valve probably has a float that surrounds the pole that extends from the bottom of the tank. The float usually has a metal rod that comes down with a clip to adjust the float. Move that clip up so that the float sits higher-this should add more water to the tank.
