Shut the PC down completely, Unplug all your USB and PS2 cables from the back and unplug the power cord. Check and make sure that the pins are not bent on the PS2 cable. Plug the power cord, USB and PS2 cables in and start the machine. If you still experience the issue repeat above shutdown procedure. Open the case and either jump the BIOs (see the manual) or pop out the Motherboard battery for a few minutes. This will reset the CMOS. Put it back together, start the computer and configure the CMOS (see manual or look for you tube video), if you don't have a manual than get the make and Model on the Motherboard, find the manufacturer website and download a manual. Good luck.

This one isn't easy but it might be a compatibility issue with the keyboard although ps2 keyboard are suppose to work 95% of the time there is still the possibility that your keyboard is not recognized or is defective, as for the usb, most pc's don't recognize it until it has time to install the drivers within windows, hope this helps.

You need a standard analog video or DVI cable to attach the monitor.

PS2 is for your keyboard or mouse only. However, Belkin has a PS2 to usb adapter that will let you attach these devices to your laptop via USB if you need to.

Hi Tony,
It appears that you have an IBM desktop whose BIOS isn't capable of booting off of a USB keyboard and mouse device. Older computers used to require that a PS2 mouse and keyboard be attached before booting, to prevent you from booting a machine without any way of controlling it. You have 3 options:

1. leave the corded mouse and keyboard attached and never use them
2. update the BIOS for your desktop to the newest one in hopes that the updated BIOS will allow for USB mouse and keyboard operation
3. go to a computer store and get a PS2 to USB converter/adapter. They're small and relatively inexpensive. It plugs into the PS2 port, and makes your computer think that there's a PS2 device connected, when it's actually a USB device.

is it a usb keyboard? usb keyboard support is probably off in the bios, so it will not recognise it untill windows loads driver for it. if you have an older keyboard around with the old purple PS2 plug on it, that should work for you to get into the bios. then turn on USB keyboard and mouse support.

Have you tried rebooting once it is connected? Not sure if it makes a difference, but I know you can not hook up PS2 peripherals without rebooting.

Hi!

Have you tried using or testing different keyboard?
Maybe your keyboard is diffective.
If the same problem.
Then your PS2 port is malfunctioning.
You can buy an USB Keyboard if available in your place or serial type keyboard as alternatives.

Attach HP PS2 Keyboard to Dell Laptop

hmm, Interesting
Because the Laptops mostly do not have the PS2 Port,
if you are using the converters connecting the USB to the PS2.
then It may be the junction related issue.
so find a USB mouse and connect it directly or try with another Converter.
that should work.

Belkin 2-port kvm switch

If you have the PS2 mouse and keyboard (round plug-in) instead of USB this is an easy install. however if you have USB you will need adapters to make this work, but I do not recommend it since more problems could occur. If you have the PS2 ends first shutdown both computers. remove your monitor, mouse, and keyboard from your computer and attach them to the single end of the switch. Mouse goes to Green, Keyboard to Purple. Take the other ends and connect the first group to your first computer mouse, keyboard, and monitor (same colors as above) and repeat for 2nd group of wires on 2nd computer. turn the computers on. you should get display, keyboard, and mouse for 1st computer. after both boot hit scroll lock 2 times within 2 seconds and then arrow up or down key to change between computers.
