I have a McCulloch, that the hose rotted off the fuel strainer in the tank, I replace the hoses, it ran for awhile then stopped, removed the carb. an have cleaned, { 7 Times} it runs for awhile then stops, Usually I dump lighter fluid in the carb. if it starts Ign is OK if not its a fuel problem. You could check on the filter, I still have a problem with mine, its a pain when your on the roof an it stops. so check the fuel filter is the only thing I could suggest to you GOOD LUCK

Check the fuel lines first for cracks. If they are cracked or brittle, replace them. Also, your carburetor may need cleaned. Use a Den Tek Brush, (used for cleaning between teeth), to clean the small portals. Make sure the small screen in carb. is free of debris. The smallest of particles can cause your problem. Reassemble and try starting. If it still acts up after all this then you will have to purchase a carb. kit and replace all appropriate parts. If you need tips on these remedies, feel free to ask.

Set the Engine Idle Screw (Not Idle Air) so the Engine will Stay Running if Required. Now Set the Idle Air Mixture Screw so there is No Hesitation when Throttling from Idle to Full Throttle. Reset the Engine Idle if Required.**** 
>>If This Carburetor has a Single Air Adjustment (Except Tank Mounted 9200 and 100900 Engine Model Carburetors), Use the Section Above that Pertains to Full Throttle RPM Air Mixture Screw and then Adjust the Screw if Required to Eliminate Any Hesitation when Throttling from Idle to Full Throttle. 
>>For the 9200 Model Tank Mounted Carburetor Adjust the Air Mixture Screw Full In, then Reverse 1 1/2 Turns. Set the Throttle Lever to Full Throttle and Start the Engine. 
>>Now Carefully Use 1 Finger and Open the Throttle Plate and Over Rev the Engine Slightly. If the Engine Over Revs and Does Not Struggle to Over Rev, then the Carburetor is Set. If the Engine Struggles to Over Rev, then Turn the Adjustment Screw In 1/4 Turn and Repeat the Over Rev Test. 
>>If you Adjust to 1/2 Turns In and the Engine Still Struggles to Over Rev, then Return the Adjustment Screw to 1 1/2 Turns Out from Snug and Turn the Screw Out 1/4 Turn. Do the Over Rev Test. Continue this Process Until you have the Engine Over Revving without Struggle. 
>>By Adjusting the Carburetor on this Style Carburetor Until the Engine Over Revs without Struggle, you have Adjusted the Air Mixture to the Best Possible Setting.

your problem is inside the carburator.there is a small screen inside that needs to be cleaned out.take the single screw from one side of carb.there is a small screen in side.carefully take an air hose and blow it out.do not blow to hard or the screen will blow out.once it's clean the unit will start right up.hope this helped,let me know.................................

SOURCE: weedeater will not start. was running, shut it off

Pull the spark plug after pushing the primer bulb and cranking a few times...if the plug is "wet" (indicating fuel is present in the cylinder) then the next step will be checking the compression...compression should read above 90psi (preferrably 100-125psi)...if compression is below 90psi, the most likely culprit will be a stuck piston ring.

Did you clean the fuel jet in the carb? If not that could be the trouble.
Pull the spark plug and put a spoon full of clean gas in the plug hole and put your plug back in and hook up the plug wire and try to start. If it fires up and stalls right after then you know you have a fuel problem. Is your primer bulb working? Sometimes I prime my one engine twenty times before it will run. Worth a try. Make sure you are using fresh gas as well.

My blower will not start


Almost positive the fuel lines are clogged if the gas has ethanol in it. Happened to my Ryobi string trimmer 2 years ago. Replaced the fuel lines from the tank to the carb.

I have a 1979 yamaha enduro 125cc i cant get it to start... i ran when i first got it and then it just died and i havn't been able to get it started... i changed the spark plugs cleaned the gas tank...


Did you squirt some gas in the cylinder to see if it would fire? Check the spark by laying the spark plug on the head, or holding it there with rubber handles, attached to the plug wire, see if you get a spark, if that checks out, you have spark, open up the air filter and peek in the carb, twist the throttle to see if gas comes shooting out. If not, squirt a little gas in the carb, try it, fire? check the fuel filter, pump, carbs could be gummed up. Did you get the jets clean? Run a wire through them to see if they are clear? Blow through them to check. Check it out.

String trimmer only runs with choke on


If you have to run with the choke on, it's having problems pulling gas thru the carb.
Start making sure that you're using fresh gas/oil mix. Don't attempt to use last years leftover in the tank or a spare can. Bad news... won't fire well.
Second, pop the carb lines off the carb and flush with carb spray cleaner (use the nozzle tube that comes with the can).
Third, check for cracks, breaks, leaks in the supply and return hoses. Replace any damaged hoses.
Disconnect the carb from the engine and spray all jets, orifices with carb cleaner (I like the Berryman's B-12 spray) and reinstall.
Also, pull the filter out of the air filter and clean, reinstall.
While you're at it, pop the spark plug out and clean the tip with carb spray as well.
Finally pour in a fresh gas/oil mix...start as usual. should be alot better!

Ryobi CS30 will start but when I pull on the Throttle trigger it bogs down, good spark plug and filter is good. I have the same problem. Cleaned everything and even put NEW mixed gas in and still does not...

Ryobi 825r 4 stroke grass trimmer fires momentarily then stops.


I would say try adjusting the carb screws further out,or start by winding all the way in then out 1,5 turns.
