I updated "off dell" the new firmware for my drive now its just a cd no dvd at all
The drive itself must actually be a DVD player. There is usually room for an other player to be installed including the one you already have. Just remember to make the jumper settings (on rear of drive) one master and one slave. You will also need software to use DVD on your computer...You can download that free from the internet. good luck my friend..leave a rating please...hope this helped
Dear ****,
Thank you kindly for leaving a rating. I shall try to assist you once again...Please tell me your computer Dell what....operating system what....I see the numbers for your drive...how does dell have it listed in the Device Manager....Did you do a OS reinstall on your computer...And what software are you running on your dell for a DVD program?

I am sorry I thought you were adding a dvd player for what you originally stated.

go to this page and here you will find the firmware that goes back to 2007. pick out your model and download. and too if you wish, change the operating system and download for both XP and Vista. (running two Operating system on the same machine is never a good idea, but if if works for you, salute)

Go to -
Start -> All Programs -> System Tools -> System Restore
and follow prompts to restore your PC back to a date before you put the drivers on and it will undo them.
PS this is for XP, not sure if it is same for Vista but will most likely be a similar procedure

i mean the firmware in my HL-DT-ST DVD+-RW GSA-H73N DVD PLAYER firmware ver is now c106 i believe dell website said recommended to I did. now will not even see a dvd at all. just cd's and i can't find the original firmware i think b103 or something like that and dell won't tell me where the old firmware is unless i give them 50 bucks
any help out there?
its a dell 530s it came with vista but often line now i unplug that drive and run xp. the problem i have now with both operating systems, like i said it only sees cd's now i changed nothing but the actuall flash memory in the dvd drive "itself".. even tried twice to make sure it took....... and can't find the old flash since it was put in at the dvd factory, and can't find the old archives on dell to fix it. even in another computer its just a cd now. so.....
Do you mean that the driver used to play dvds and now it plays only cds?
