Are you able to login to the router itself to change the MAC address filtering settings. Usually routers have default IP addresses of 192.168.1.1 or 192.168.0.1. Try either of these addresses in your browser and the login should be admin with password admin, unless it was changed by someone else. Then you will need to get the login information.

SOURCE: Please help.... I have just purchased a dlink

For setup, you need an Ethernet cable connection to the router, WLAN needs to be configured first before you can use it to administrate the router.
Quick installation guide is here: ftp://ftp.dlink.de/dir/dir-600/documentation/DIR-600_revb_qig_multi.pdf
The default user name is "admin" with empty password.
If you suspect the settings are not at factory defaults, press the reset button at the rear for 20 seconds with the router powered on.

Setting up a wireless router with a Windows client can be complicated.
There are a number of measures and options that have to be understood, and it's all too easy to make a mistakes but D-Link provides an easy to walk through configuration system to help you set up your D-Link wireless router.

Plug one end of the Ethernet cable into the DSL modem.

Then plug the other end into the "WAN" port on the back of the D-Link wireless router.

Connect wired computers to any of the other Ethernet ports on the router using another Ethernet cable.
Access the D-Link Configuration Screen

Open your web interface and type "http://192.168.0.1" into the address bar, then hit "Enter" or "Return."
Use "Admin" as the username and leave the password blank when the login screen appears.
Click "OK." You should now see the D-Link configuration screen.
Set Up General Security

Change your administrative password by clicking on the "Tools" tab and choosing the "Admin" button.

Enter a new password under the "Administrator" heading.
Confirm it, and click "Apply."
Disable the wireless Local Area Network (LAN) if you don't need to use the wireless access and you want to make sure no one else is able to access your network.
Under the "Home" tab, choose "Wireless" and select the "Off" option.
Enable Wireless Encryption Protocol (WEP)

Locate the "Home" tab in the D-Link Configuration screen, and click on the "Wireless" button.
Use the "Open System" button beside "Authentication."
Select the "Enabled" button next to "WEP," and set the encryption key to "128 bit."
Set the "Key Type" to "ASCII" and choose a 13-digit password for the "Key 1" field.
Write down the password in a secure location.
Click "Apply." Change the SSID

Change the SSID to make it more difficult for others to locate and use your network by clicking on the "Home" tab and locating the "Wireless" button.
Change the default SSID to one of your choosing, then click "Apply."
Disable SSID broadcasting. Under the "Advanced" tab, click on "Performance" and check off the "Disabled" box. Again, click "Apply."
Filter MAC Addresses

Click the "Advanced" tab in the D-Link "Configuration" screen and select the "Filters" button.
Choose the "MAC Filters" and click on "Only Allow Computers with MAC Address Listed Below to Connect to the Network."
Enter the name and MAC address of the computers allowed to access the network, beginning with the one you are currently configuring. Click "Apply."

I am not sure if it is a case of mac filtering. I recently got my iPad2 and it sees the dlink signal but "failed to join". I did not have a problem with the laptop and notebook with windows 7....

It could be, you need to check the D-Link's wireless settings and see if MAC address filtering has been enabled. If so then you need to add the IPad2 wireless card MAC address to the list of MAC address in the D-Link's MAC address table.
If MAC address filtering has not been enables then the D-Link's SSID and encryption (WEP or WPA or WPA2) settings need to be entered in the iPad2 wireless settings.
Have a look at the wireless settings in the laptop and notebook, these should be the same and you can apply these settings to the iPad2.

I have Kindle 3 WiFi and cannot connect to my Linksys WRT54GS in my home. How do I change the setting to allow MAC access? Thanks!

Hi, the MAC address filtering settings can be accessed by logging into your router's configuration software (type 192.168.1.1 into your web browser and hit Enter, then type in your username and password) and going to the Wireless tab and beneath that, Wireless MAC Filter. You can either choose Disable to turn the MAC filter off completely, or you can choose Edit MAC Filter List and add your Kindle's MAC address to the list of approved devices.

How to lock dlink router DIR-600 so neighbors can"t connect?

The simplest way is to make sure wireless security is set up, so that users must provide the proper key before they can connect. You can find the user's manual here, which explains the process.

If you're willing to go a step further, you can turn on "MAC address filtering". The MAC address is a unique number assigned to the network interface hardware of the computer, and MAC address filtering blocks access for all wireless users except those you add to the list. If you want to allow only a few computers to use your wireless network (family members' laptops, or friends who may come by, for instance), this is the best way to do it. Then, even if someone guessed the security key, they still couldn't connect.

Enabled MAC address filtering and no cannot access the internet

You have to connect to your router using an Ethernet cable. MAC address filtering is for wireless connections only.
After you connected via a cable, you can log in to your router and correct the settings. Make sure to follow the instructions in the manual from page 2-11 to 2-13.
If you don't have a manual, you can download it here. Choose the correct model, go to the "Documentation" tab and choose "User Manual".

MAC ADDRESS FILTERING MAY BE ENABLED ON MY WIRELESS ROUTER?

should be an option in the console (in browser go to 192.168.0.1 or 192.168.1.1, etc)

MAC Filtering just means that you can set up a set of MAC addresses (Machine Address) of units you want to be able to access your network. If you didnt set the MAC of a unit it will not be able to join the network. So mac filtering is a way to limit connection with your network.

Are you talking about network places in a Windows Operating System?

Can you get into your DLink Router?

If you can directly get into the Dlink router, you will be able to determine what the mac addresses of those devices are, in the DHCP list table. You must have the devices on and connected to the network for them to be listed. From within the DLink router, you can also turn on mac filtering.

For exact details, visit dlinks website: www.dlink.com for the support manual for the router.

MAC address filtering is used to prevent unauthorised people getting access to your wireless network. you need to get into the Airport Extreme configuration using Internet Explorer or any other browser, then select wireless setup then MAC address filtering. You need to turn off MAC address filtering.
Check your manual on how to configure your Airport Extreme.
