Question about Soundstream Amp Rub5.800 5 Channel Speaker Sq Amplifier

Open Question

I have a Soundstream Rub5.800 amp for about 2 years and that last week started tripping the protection circuitry on the amp. I have read that it could be a short circuit but I don't know where because it just started all of the sudden after starting up the car. I checked the ground wire and redid the ground and also have replaced all of the fuses on the amp and the main fuse on the power wire. When it happens I know that amp is not hot because most of the time its right after I start the car. I have had the car battery and the alternator checked and are both in great working orders. So I don't know what the problem is

You can get the schematic from SoundStream. If you get the schematic and need help, email it to me at:

If the amplifier does nothing, post the DC voltage on each of the pins of the SG3525 (or whatever IC they're using in the supply). Use this as a template:

SOURCE: amp staying in protection mode

No, this amp is not a heavy power consumer- matter of fact it takes very little power to run.Maybe you should check the fuses on the amp to see if they are what is recommended. Also check your fuse kit to your amp- your fuse might not be big enough. If neither works take it back where u got it.

MY soundstream LiL Wonder 4.620 is only going in protection mode

Disconnect all speakers Meter power, remote, ground at amp, if all is good move on, if not check main fuses
Turn amp on; If in protect mode then your amp is toast Turn amp on, if not in protect mode then start reconnecting speakers one by one until your amp goes into protect mode, then you'll know which speaker is bad.

PV 500 / Breaker trips during use

Breakers (or fuses) tripping during use can be caused by 2 main causes and one minor one.
1. If there's a short in the wiring between the amp and speaker (or the speaker is shorted internally) the amp attempts to deliver more current than it can tripping the breaker. This may not be a full, direct short but results in a load that the amp can't handle long term. Likely the sound is also distorted to some extent.
2. If the output stage of the amp has some weak or soon to fail components (usually output transistors) that will also lead to high current and breaker tripping. This one requires amp repair - probably by a professional.
The more unusual cause would be protection circuitry issues but I'd check the other 2 first.

Sub keeps loosin bass

Its probably not your subwoofer- its likely that your amp is showing its age after 2 years of bumping -But it could be that you have partially roasted the coil on the sub which is tripping your amp into protect mode-thus shutting down throw a different sub in there for a week and listen to it and if it stops acting up then its probably the sub if it still shuts down then it may be time for a new amp

Everytime I plug in the power cord, it trips the breaker.

Refrigerators are not designed to run on a GFCI. Try a heavy duty extension cord to the fridge from a outlet that is not GFCI protected. If it still trips you probably have a short circuit in the compressor.

It probably has shorted output transistors. To eliminate other possible causes, read through the following page.
