Question about Washing Machines
You have a leaking water supply valve that is allowing water into the tub while not running-try unplugging the power when not using and see if it still happens-this would eliminate a problem with the controls messing up-if its still doing it you could shut the water off at the wall between loads and replace the water control valve at your leisure-cheers Denny

SOURCE: Maytag top load washer leak
underneath the agitator is a graphite seal ring and nut that seals the inner tub and the outer tub. a suitable spanner wrench or a 6 inch channel lock plier will remove this locknut. replace the seal.

Went through the same routine, first repaired the upper control board R11/Q6 issue and replaced wax motor.
Worked for a couple year and quit again so I bought a new board, close to $300 I think it made a huge difference I think they changed the programming to spin out better.
