Question about Singer Curvy 8770 Electronic Sewing Machine

1 Answer

My Singer Curvy sewing machine tension is not working. No matter what setting I set the dial to the tension never changes. There is none. My machines stitches look ok on top of the fabric, but bunch up underneath.

Try a new needle
make sure the bobbin is turned the right way in the bobbin case
rethread the machine top and bobbin
if these suggestions don't help, then the machine needs to be checked

SOURCE: Singer CE-100 Embroidery thread bunches up underneath fabric

I had this problem and it all came down to using the wrong backing. I kep trying to use tearaway on everything but WRONG. Using the proper backing corrects most problems. Good Luck!

SOURCE: threading problem on Singer Sewing machine Inspiration 4206

This can be caused by incorrect bobbin tension or the bobbin is in backwards. Take out the bobbin and put it in according to the instructions for your Singer. If you still have the same problem try tightening the bobbin tension. Please ask if you have any questions.

SOURCE: when making a straight stitch or Zigzag stitch,

Your top tensioner is too loose.make sure the thread runs through all the relevant eyes and then tighten the top tension little by little as you do a sample few stitches.

SOURCE: I have a Singer Sewing Machine 5817C, the thread

Make sure that there is tension on the thread when you have passed it through the tension unit, by making sure the presser foot is down, and then gently pulling the thread to feel tension. If there is no tension, as seems to be the case, check the tension discs inside the unit to make sure that there is no debris stopping them from closing.

Hi Cat,
This seems to be a common problem, but easy to fix. Check the bobbin, and see if the thread feeds out quickly when holding the thread and letting the bobbin case drop. You should see a small screw on the front of the bobbin case for adjustment. Screw that until the drop rate is slight. You may need to adjust a few times to get just the right rate of feed.
Hope this helps, Please rate and comment, Thank You
Joe

I have a Singer Curvy 8780. All I want to do is sew a straight stitch. What are the settings?

You'll need stitch pattern 01 in the first group after you press the utility stitch button (top button on the left of the 4 way arrow keys). Press button A (the left most up-arrow below the LCD screen). Use buttons B (move left) & C (move right) to select the needle position and D (shorter) & E (longer) to adjust the stitch length. E is the right-hand button in the group. Start with the tension set to Auto and adjust as needed based on your fabric and thread. For normal straight seams, start with the default settings.

Singer has the manual for the Curvy 8780 on the product site: http://www.singerco.com/products/1545/8780-curvy#type-support . The direct link to the manual is http://www.singerco.com/uploads/download/089a99d1802347d9441d83e8a591e6d0db17b80c.pdf . See page 30 for the stitch pattern; page 40 starts a longer discussion of straight stitching.

I hope this helps.

The upper thread tension keeps breaking the thread, no matter how low I set the tension. How do I fix it?

Not a technician, but I had same issue not long ago, it was old dried out thread. Once I replaced with new thread, no more issues. Something easy to try. Also might want to double check to make sure no thread is between the pressure plates. I use canned air to spray them out once in a while between annual cleaning.

I have a Singer model #6105, what do I set my stitch lenght to and what do I set the tension dial to for just regular sewing?

Your upper tension dial should start at 4 to 5. The stitch length should be at 2.5, or 3. Make sure your settings are on straight stitch, and the rest are set in the middle. I've worked on one of these, and it's a nice little machine.

I recently rec'd Singer Curvy 8770 as gift. Trying to use for first time and thread on underside of stitches is loose. Have tension on top dial as far as 9. I hve been sewing for forty+ yrs.

Try this, totally rethread with the presser foot up, then pull the top thread, it should move smoothly, then lower the presser foot, now pull the thread, it should barely move. This seats the thread in the tension discs.

I am sewing a strip of velcro on to a piece of nylon. No matter if the velcro is on the top or the bottom it is loopy and nesting on the underside. I have the Singer curvy and have the tension set on auto....

As you sew, pinch the thread between your fingers to cause a false tension/drag. Does that help? if so more tension is needed. The fabric is hard, stiff and dense. you need lots of tension to set the stitch. if you need extra tension greater then the control can give, tie a piece of fabric around the arm of machine and trap the top thread under the tie to create more tension/drag. I assume the machine is threaded correctly.. top and bottom. You could also try a thick needle in order to punch larger holes in the velcro thus allowing the thread to come up easier. thats all i can do without seeing it.
