Depends on your specific device model. Some people connect their phone using a USB cable while others send an email to themselves with the file. Send email by texting your email address first from your phone or contact your service provider and find out what your firstname.lastname@example.org is. They should help.
If the sound and vibration work but only for a short time try setting the actual sound vibration settings to a longer setting. Instead of vibrating/beeping for 1-2 times or for a few seconds set it to 4-5 beeps, vibrates. Check the manual for this settings location on the phone.
The beeping sounds is not the phone's fault I guess, I guess it is the SIM card's fault. Try changing your SIM card to a new one from your service provider. Also buy a new battery from Cell phone companies, please do not buy the Made in China batteries with names different than Motorola, just buy the ones with the Motorola sign.
When you are in Mobile Email and logged into your mail service, under OPTIONS there is an option to change EMAIL ALERTS. At least it is for Yahoo. I am assuming it would be the same or similar for other email services.
