What are leather shoe care & maintenance tips and advice?

Some tips from our in-house experts
Caring for your Clark's footwear will not only prolong the life of your shoes, but will keep them looking in tip-top condition for longer. Here are a few key steps you can take to look after your favorite leather footwear.
  1. Use a damp cloth to remove soiling then let dry naturally - never on top of a radiator, next to the oven, near the fireplace - just somewhere at room temperature.
  2. Use a colored polish that matches your shoe color to restore any damaged areas, filling in the scuffed away spots .
  3. Use a good leather cream - this acts like a moisturizer for your shoes but with added benefits, again helping to build up a protective barrier.
  4. Use a shoe-protecting product to build up a protective barrier, this way, your shoes will last longer!
THE SHOEMAKER"S TOP TIP
To get a really good shine use a damp cloth when polishing leather shoes. Once the cloth starts to 'grip', stop polishing, let the shoe dry naturally, then buff with a dry cloth. Repeat until your achieve the level of shine you want. All shoes will benefit from a shoe-tree, especially leather shoes which have been wet as the tree will help maintain a good shape.

Remove bleach stains

I don't think you're going to get bleach stains "out". The bleach has removed the tanning in the leather and it's not coming back. Have you tried polishing them with the same, or similar colored shoe polish like Ki Wi (sp?) shoe polish? if not, maybe a cobbler can tan them with products he has?

How do I clean my stormbuck boots from Timberland? The store did not know

Considering everything that we might step in during the day, it's a wonder that we bring our shoes into our homes at all. Cleaning our shoes not only gets all that grime back out the door, but it makes the shoes look better and last longe
Instructions Things You'll Need:

  • Shoe brushes
  • White vinegar
  • Soft cloths
  • Nylon bristle brush
  • Pencil erasers or fine sandpaper
  • Leather cleaner or saddle soap
  • Leather conditioner
  • Waterproofer
  • Shoe polish
  • Shoe polishing cloths
  • Baking soda
  1. Clean smooth leather shoes by first removing the laces and giving them a vigorous brushing with a shoe brush.

  2. Clean salt stains from shoes by mixing equal parts white vinegar and water and dampening a small cloth. Use the cloth to scrub the stained area. For suede or nubuck, use a nylon bristle brush.

  3. Use leather cleaner or saddle soap to clean the leather with a soft cloth. Pay particular attention to the seams.

  4. Clean suede or nubuck with a pencil eraser or fine sandpaper, then rub with a bath towel to bring up the nap again.

  5. Apply leather conditioner to all leather shoes, taking care to use the correct kind for smooth leather or suede. Conditioner keeps your shoe leather soft.

  6. Waterproof your shoes.

  7. Polish your shoes to help protect them and to give them a clean-looking gloss.

  8. Deodorize your shoes by sprinkling a generous amount of baking soda into them and shaking the shoes to distribute it inside. Let stand overnight, and then shake the baking soda out

How to Choose Children's Shoes?

When purchasing a first pair for your chaild you should consider the following things: 1.Wait to buy shoes until your child starts to walk.
2.
When it's time for your baby's first pair of shoes, take your well rested, recently fed child to a quality children's shoe store that stock brands such as Stride Rite and Elefanten. The best stores have patient and knowledgeable salespeople who are expert at fitting children's feet.
3.Have the salesperson measure the length and width of both of the child's feet. Many babies have an extra wide foot and may need a special size.
4.
Make sure the shoes aren't too big, which can cause a baby to trip. First shoes should be soft and pliable to let new walkers feel the ground.

How do I disassemble a dremel shoe polisher? thanks

take the 4 screws out of the bottom and take the plate off. then take the 2 screws out of the the actual polisher unit. also take the 2 screws out of the button connector thing. after that remove the electrical caps to all the wires and untwist the wires and take off the polisher unit. heres the hard part. get strong pliers or a strong gripping tool and grab hold of the metal securing covering the motor. rip the metal were it comes around and meets and once you have done that (it will take a while), the whole metal covering will come off. next you have to take the polisher pads off and untwist the plastic cones underneath the pads. now you need needle nose pliers and you will have to untwist the 4 nuts on each side with the pliers. once you have done that you can take the nuts off and slide the black motor coverings and you are left with the motor and you have disassembled the Dremel Shoe Polisher.
