Unplug the clutch and see what happens... if it doesn't blow then you need a need clutch. if it still blows check the ignition switch and the pto switch... oh, next time include at least a model # so know what model of scag you have. multiple style electrical systems throughout the years...

I ran out of gas while mowing now my blades won't engage, what's my problem?

Sounds like you have 2 separate problems.
Once you get more gas and get the engine running you will have solved the first one.
If the blades will still not engage, shut the engine OFF and check the drive belts, idlers, and spring on the tension idler.

Why will the cutter blades on scag SW36A not engage?

I am thinking this is a 12 volt PTO system that does not have a battery... this is where you need to check the wiring, especially the big white plug on the right side of the mower... It might also be a mechanical engagement system, if this is the case, suspect the belt popped of or is way out of adjustment

Engine cuts out wen blades turned on

You either have a faulty PTO switch or a faulty seat switch
The saftey shut down circut usually has four switches that have to be made to start motor and engage blades
both steer levers have one each
seat has one
lever conected for parking brake has one
scag might use plug in relays which could be bad too

Blades will not engage but will remain running

It is most likely the switch. I had the same problem and that fixed. I found the switch on Amazon for less than $20. Stens 430-798 PTO Switch Replaces Scag 483957

Husquevarna rider mower dies & blows fuse when pto is engaged

you may need to check that your blade engage sensor is working properly, and that the one on the seat is working properly. if not that, then check the ignition fuse connections. they may seem to be connected properly, and still not be seated properly. good luck.

Blows a fuse when i engage the mower blades

assuming that your rider has an electric clutch? if so then it is prob shorted out,,,,,,,you can check the clutch with an ohm meter readings should be 2-4 ohms any less means that it has an internal short anything more then it has an open circuit

LTX1000 42" 18HP Kohler - Blowing fuse after 2-4 min mowing.

sounds as though you are on the right track
but be sure to check the wiring directly from the electric clutch on the front of the motor back to the switch
a wire could be pinched in the frame and shorting out intermittingly
look around and find those wires and move them around and look for chaffing and tightness
and what you could also do is to unhook the clutch at the connection to it at the front of the motor and engage switch and ride around and see if fuse blows and if not you may have an electric clutch issue
