My Coby CS-CD400 played just fine for about a week and then the CDs just stopped playing about the 3rd track. No matter what I do it will not go and eventually I get an "E" which I assume means I have an error. Once I get the error, even removing and reinstalling and starting the player again doesn't work.

I have tried one of those CD cleaners that you're suppose to use after 10 hours of playing but it won't even turn.

I cleaned the lens and the table is turning loudly, it will play the last track of the CD. It will not start playing the CD at the very beginning. If I rewind to the first track, the CD simply turns. You can hear it spinning but not advancing.

No cds will play at all whatsoever in my RCA RP-9100, it tries to read, and works sometimes, but most of time doesn't, and it is annoying

I have a Spirit stereo cd player with radio/cassette recorder. When I insert a cd, it won't turn or play. The machine tries to read the disc but it is not turning or making any noise. I cleaned the lens with a cotton swab and denatured alcohol and it still doesn't work. The display window either has ER or no showing.

I have a Coby cx-cd241 boombox that won't read cd's. It is brand new. The CD spins but never makes any sound. Er appears in the display window every time. Any help would be appreciated.

Hi Could be bad spin motor, but the first thing to try is load the cd and put your ear to the unit and listen for a ticking sound...if there is, then the laser is trying to focus. If not ticking, there is likely a serious problem, and the whole unit should be replaced. If you hear the lense bouncing up and down, then it is likely a dirty lense or bad laser. To clean it, use a cotton swab and wet the end with at least 70% USP rubbing alchohol(99% better). Touch the swab to the lense and a drop should form on the lense, gently move the drop around to loosen any debris, and then use a dry swab and touch it to the lense to absorb the drop. Try the unit, and if it was dirt on the lense, it should work, if not the boombox should probably be replaced. Good Luck!

Clean the lens with rubbing alchohol - using a cotton swab - then clean it again, maybe even a third & fourth time. The units tend to get SO dirty (and we expect so much out of them) that this procedure needs to be done at least once a month. It only takes a few seconds to do! The last unit I worked on took 5 cleanings to begin functioning and two more for it to work as new.

For novices like me it'd be helpful if you'd acknowledge exactly where the lens is located. I think it's the little clear lens to the left of the spindle; and, I know you shouldn't look directly at this; but, in theory or for whatever reason, I was looking for a red lens. I cleaned off the clear lens and the whole player for that matter, to no avail. It must be the bigger issue. The unit stirs like it wants to read; but, returns to 00. Bah humbug.

I have 5 disc changer that will revolve but wont play disc just keep running.

What you hear running may be a fan, a motor that spins the CD, the motor that moves the head in & out, or the motor that turns the turntable.
I suspect on something that old, the motor that spins the CD may be worn out. Place 1 CD in position and make note of the exact position of the words on the CD, let the player go through all 5 positions and see if the CD is still in the exact position that it was when you started. If this is the problem there's usually no easy way to fix it.
If the turntable doesn't turn, then it's that motor or a possibly a belt that no longer works.

There is also the possibility that the read head is no longer moving in and out smoothly, you'll have to take the unit apart and re-grease the slides with light lithium grease.

The read head being dirty or too dusty is another possibility, but even less likely. When you get it apart, clean the read head with a cotton swab and rubbing alcohol, anything harsher might damage the components.

Cassette player doesnt play or record, ff or rewind. CD player, AM/FM radio works fine.

If you hear a faint whirring sound from the cassette player while performing these functions, the motor is fine, but you require a new drive belt/s that need to be fitted at an electronics shop. If you hear not sound at all, the motor has died (possibly belts too), again it will require and electrinics repair shop visit.
For the sake of repairing it, it maybe cheaper to buy a new one.

The CD spins, but will not play. It does not seem

Your laser head has probably gotten weak, or the spindle motor is worn. You can probably replace either yourself if you're VERY mechanically inclined, otherwise I would leave that up to a shop.
Good luck.

Cd player is not working. One day it was working and next day it wasn't. I guess a button was pushed and now we can't figure out. Cd player will not read or play cds

?: Does the cd spins? If it does the optical eye that reads the cd could be dirty. Clean the eye with cd lens cleaner. If the cd is not spinning the motor could be bad. Also some cd players can't read certain disks because of the density of the disk. Make sure you read the manual to see what cds are compatible with your boombox. I hope these solutions were helpful.

Good Luck

CD player on boombox

The laser is dead or damaged. Try swabbing the laser with rubbing alcohol on a Q-Tip, then IMMEDIATELY blowing dry with canned air. If this fails, the laser is dead. If it is a Sony KSS-2xx series laser (try to peek in the laser slot to see the decal on it) you can get replacements online. If not, it's junk.
