Try another card reader or plug your current card reader into another USB slot or try to see if it can be read on another computer. Make sure card is correctly seated in the card reader and it is the correct way around.

SOURCE: r4i cartridge isn't recognize. Can anyone help?

Hey there,

You should check to see the authenticity of your R4i cards. Typically, the red package (R4i-SDHC original) is real, and the R4i Gold version is also an acceptable alternative which is arguably more future proof:

Make sure you have a decent / original R4i card. Differences in manufacturing techniques could simply mean quality control is poor on the cards you bought, which would explain why one works and one doesn't.

If you're looking for a reliable place to buy real DS cards, I'd recommend - mainly because they ship by next day worldwide, but also because they test every single card before sending so you don't get a card that doesn't work. You can also e-mail them questions, even before you buy - and they tend to reply within about a day. I've bought mine from there (they are the third store I've tried but I'm sticking with them!) and several more since for friends and family.

Best of luck!

How did you go solving the problem. I had a similar problem when a friend of mine gave me a cdrom version of the software that fixed the problem up straight away. The only problem is it is about 80meg in size. If you know a way of me sending it to you I am more than happy to do so.

My r4i -sdhc says that an eror has acourd

The problem is that you upgrade the 3DS console before upgrade r4i sdhc. Please following the below steps
1. Download latest r4i 3ds V1.60b firmware from official page, and install it to the MicroSD card.2. Find a DS or DSi console, put the R4i SDHC 3DS card with MicroSD into the Ds or DSi console.3. Power on the console to enter the R4i main menu4. Choose the third button and click, you can enter next steps5. Press the "upgrade" button, you will enter the next steps6. Click "start" button to start the upgrade process.7. Wait about 2 minutes, the upgrade process finish.

How to correctly setup an R4i card version 1.4 (red box)

First, take everything out of the packaging. Turn you computer on and go to your desktop. Then take you MicroSD card out and connect it to/ insert it in the T-flash (the USB port connector), and plug that into you USB port. Wait for the "what do you want to do?" menu to load and click "open folder to view files. After that, go to Search for your version and download the latest kernel version. ( the kernels are wat say "r4i version 1.4," and etc.) Once you have downladed it, if you do not have an extractor/unzip program go to and download winrar for you computer. If you already have an unzip/extractor program, use it on the kernel file you just downloaded. You will see a new file appear with the same name. Open the file and drag your mouse over all of the folder's contents, then right click and select 'copy' then paste them into your MicroSD card folder. Thats all you need to do, and for roms you just copy and paste them into the MicroSd card folder. i would suggest making a members account on, a great downloading place for roms.

Hello, i installed many firmware on my sd card. I also formatted de card. When i try to click on the icon, it says: an error accured etc etc. I have a dsi xl and a r41 sdhc v2.0 card. What am i doing...

OK, firstly make sure you are downloading the correct firmware for your R4i.

1. Download the latest firmware from the website shown on the front of the R4i card.

2. Back-up your games files and re-format the Micro SD and transfer the firmware.

3. Make sure you put your downloaded game files in a separate folder (I made a new folder called 'games' on the micro SD).

If this doesn't solve the problem then you may need to buy a new card compatible with the DSi XL (although the card you have should be fine)

I would recommend this site for downloading games:

System date error! Please check NDS system data. This has come up on screen, could you give any advice please

Hi ya
remove your R4 card. Go to the system setting and turn your date on the dsi back by a year!!
Put your R41 back in and it should work.
happened to my sons and the only way it would work was to turn the date back.

R4i working SLOW on DSi. Loads slow and make save files slow.???

cause DSI is the nintendos attempt to stop R4 card users! see the r4 and GnM cards made nintendo invest in a microsd slot! so try using that card with the dsi instead of the R4 as people now are hacking the micro sd slot to allow any ds rom to be played! faster then th R4 due to the fact that the micro sd is connected right to the motherboard of a ds game slot devices such as R4

Games on r41 card wont play on ds

The R4i will work just fine on a DS Lite, I don't know what you're talking about. As for the DSi, it depends on which R4i it is. f you have the R4i Gold, then I'm sorry to tell you, there's no workaround for DSi 1.4. If you have R4i SDHC (redbox) then you can get the latest firmware to make it work again.

There's a great tutorial to set it up on with pictures and links to all the official software on their supportpage. And I noticed they made a video about it
