Contact Craftsman unless it is now too old and if so check with a small appliance/tool repair shop in your area

Do they have a reset button?

No. Check the power cord and see if it has full voltage through it. If so pull the motor brushes (black caps top and bottom of tool) and see if they are ok. If the brush spring is collapsed you'll need to replace it.....if the motor is good!. If the brushes look good the next step is the switch. You can test it with a multi-meter. If not that then maybe the module or maybe the brush holders. If none of that motor trouble. It sounds like a lot to check but it's not difficult. Good Luck!

Location of brushes on dremel multi max kit

There should be a second brush. Look along the motor - you're looking for a spot where the armature (the part that rotates) is surrounded by a ring of little straight copper-colored bars. That's the "commutator" section. The brushes run against the copper bars.

Look on the outside of the plastic shell - there may be two large plastic screws, one on the outside of each shell half, right about where the commutator would be on the inside. Those are your brush holder screws; you should be able to change the brushes from OUTSIDE the tool without opening it. Some tools are built without external brush holders like that, but most have external brush holders.

If you find external brush holder screws, then track down the second brush and set it aside. It MAY be hanging from the brush holder in one of the shell halves. Unscrew both brush holders and remove them from the shell. Set them aside and reassemble the motor back into the shell. If the brushes are really short, like if they're nearly cube-shaped, then it's time to replace them. If not, try them again.

Insert one brush into each of the holes the brush holder screws came out of, and put the brush holder screws back in. Be careful not to cross-thread them. Try the tool.

If it still won't run, it's possible that an armature winding has given up the ghost and it's time to replace the tool...

How to close blade on craftsman 10 in 1 lighted multi tool ? #39045

I have one. It is a locking style blade. There is a lock that you need to push to release it. The lock looks like another tool next to the hinge of the blade. Push it against the base of the blade.

How to change the brushes in the older Craftsman tool. Seems they are placed in the motor and the end closed by small tabs bent down?

if that is the case without having the model number it sounds like they are not replaceable and you would have to buy a motor assembly. Alot of tool mfrs did not make these brushes replaceable.

Have a MODEL 572.610530 CRAFTSMAN ROTARY TOOL. TURNED ON UNIT AND BEFORE I STARTED USING IT, THE TOOL SHUT DOWN. I EVEN CHANGED OUTLETS TO MAKE SURE IT WASN'T THE OUTLET...IS THERE A WAY TO RESET TO...

Hi and welcome to FixYa, I am Kelly. First off you did not mention the age of this tool which would have been quite helpful in my response.

I looked up your parts here:
http://www.searspartsdirect.com/partsdirect/part-model/Craftsman-Parts/Rotary-tool-Parts/Model-572610530/0247/0741520/10043672/00001?blt=06&prst=0&shdMod=572610530

You should inspect the brushes (item 11) for wear or broken springs. From what I can tell this particular model has been in the retail market place for at least 10 years. This would lead me to believe that the brushes are suspect. The brushes can be removed by unscrewing the opposing "screwdriver slotted" plastic caps on the outside of the tool and then carefully lift them out for inspection.
Use a flashlight and inspect the armature where the brushes come into contact. It should be shiny copper colored and not dark or black.

I also note that the switch has 5 speeds. Since it does not work on any speed... I doubt the switch has failed.

Need a set of Brushes for a Craftsman circular saw model 315.27802 I tried Sears Parts and they are no longer available. Bill wyuhasse@atmc.net

Try anyplace that handles electric motor repair or tool repair. Most brushes are standard and probably a set from a black and decker saw will fit
