Most likely keyboard is dying! Try connecting an external USB keyboard and use the keys not working on the other keyboard. If they work then it means that you have a faulty keyboard.

Any liquids spilled on the keyboard ?

Testimonial: "I tried to connect an USB keyboard and all keys works fine. I did't spilled anything on, but I was cleaning with a cloth and some liquid in it like I did so many times!! Must change the keyboard or there is any solution to solve this kind of damage?"

hold down the option key on your keyboard and then press the volume up or down button on your keyboard. This brings up the sound preferences pane. Click on the Output tab then make sure your headset is selected as the output.

My y key just stopped working on my macbook (I am on my husbands for this message) all other letters are fine. Any idea what I can do to fix this? Thanks, Deb

DEB.

What you can try is hooking up a USB keyboard to try and see if that Y is working now if it workes on a external keyboard then its time to use your apple care to have the keyboard switched out. I know you where looking for a better answer then this but the issue is complexity and time. I want you to diagnose your problem and solve it that way not fix the wroung problem make sense? So if the external keyboard wroks then the mac book keyboard will need repair.

Thanks nad please do be considerate when passing threw fixya to leave feedback and ratings.

I cannot writte some letters

Obtain any model of USB keyboard from any other computer and plug it into your MacBook. If you can type those letters from that keyboard, you have a keyboard hardware issue. If you still can't, check System Preferences / International and make sure you are set to use the US keyboard.

My underline (dash), enter, and right bracket keys do not work.

It sounds like a keyboard fault, try plugging in any USB keyboard, if that works the keyboards are fairly straught forward to swap (google "take apart guide" for your exact model, keyboards are usually on eBay
