Question about Microsoft Computers & Internet

1 Answer

I have upgraded to Windows 8.1. The problem is that whenever I go to a video and play it, let's just take the example of Facebook, the video plays for just a few seconds, usually 5 to 7 seconds, then stops. If I watch a live streaming, it is just 2 seconds that it is stopped now. Also, sometimes when I enter the address of any site into address bar of my browser (Firefox 24.0), the loading starts and stops suddenly, with only a white page, then when I refresh the page, it opens normally. I hope you guys can help me solve this issue on your earliest. Thank you!

Well, thanks for replies. One this is for sure that my internet connection is working very fine and the speed is good. But the problem is that all videos play just for a few seconds then they just stop. Facebook app (from Windows Store) shows that "Video could not be decoded."

Is it ALL videos over the internet? What about YouTube, is that playing full videos for you? Make sure your Flash player is up to date and check to see if there are any Windows updates that you should install.

Yes, it is all over the internet. No matter which website I use. I have already tried reinstalling Adobe Flash Player. And I have up-to-date Windows Updates. One thing more. My downloads stuck on 99% no matter what I download. I use IDM. Can it be a problem from my network provider? Should I talk to 'em?

SOURCE: youtube videos stop after playing for 2-3 seconds

the most possible cause is slow internet connection, I experienced this too sometimes with Youtube before going to ADSL line.

SOURCE: Video streaming that constantly buffers

At&t offers 4 speeds to its customers, 768 kbps 1.5 mbps, 3.0 mbps & 6.0 mbps.  On the 1.5 connection depending on what type of video you're watching, you will experience some glitching.  If your general internet seems slow, then scan for malware/spyware.
I reccomend you use malwarebytes free version doesn't give realtime protection

SOURCE: video streaming problem

Since it is only itv that seems to be having problems and checking the site myself where it reported that it was having problems instead of playing the selected clip, it is just going to be a matter of time until they resolve the issues. I don't know if it a hardware failure at their end or if they are having load problems, but chances are it is not an issue with your system.

How do I stop video from automatically being downloaded when using the app?

For example; If you are talking about a video in Facebook that downloads and plays each time you open Facebook, to stop it playing go to: Settings, Facebook, Settings (under Facebook), Auto Play, there you can select On (where it will play the video always) Wi-Fi only (where it will only play if you are connected to WiFi or Off, where it will never play automatically.

There may be other Apps where this happens but this is an example of where to find the settings.

LG GP40NB40

Are you connecting the unit to your computer or a TV?
If it's the former, what OS does your computer have? Can you access the DVD to read the contents of any optical disc or play back audio CDs? If you can't get any content, then try a different Y USB cable (shorter cables are best). If you still don't get a response, try a different optical drive. The LG GP40NB40 may be faulty. If it is under warranty (1 year), contact LG or return it to the store where you purchased it (usually a 30 day return period).
If you have Windows 8, it doesn't come with the Codecs to play DVDs. (Some new Windows 8 machines will include a program like Cyberlink's PowerDVD. However, not all will.) In that case you need to install an appropriate program to play DVDs. The Win8 Media Player requires an upgrade to Win8 Pro and then the purchase of the Media Center. VLC will play most DVDs http://www.videolan.org/vlc/index.html . Some DRM issues may interfere. There are other DVD playback programs you can try. (As far as I can tell, the software that LG included with this model is not Win8 compatible for playback of movies.) If you had an older version of Windows and upgraded to Windows 8 Pro, you just need to purchase Media Center. (At least with some machines, the DVD playback software before the upgrade wasn't Win8 compatible and has to be upgraded.)
If you have a different OS, please indicate which one. (XP, Vista and Windows 7 all came with media player codecs for DVDs. Before that, the feature wasn't included.)
If you are connecting to a TV, it isn't designed to play commercial movies. It acts like a flash drive to play videos, display photos, etc. (Thus the limitations are due to the TVs file Codecs. Check the TV documentation.)

I hope this helps.
