DIY Speaker replacement Bel 995

I have a Bel 995 and recently the speaker stopped working. I'm fairly handy and would like to do the repair myself, but I am having trouble removing the cover from the detector. I have only found one screw to remove, and when I remove it, I still can't get the cover off. Please let me know what else I have to do to open the detector? Thanks!

Thanks! I found the other screw under a label at the bottom of the detector.

Sometimes they hide the screws, usually under stickers/labels on the unit, remove all labels and if still no screws It's probably just a tight fit, unsnap by prying with flathead screwdriver. Good Luck

First you unscrew the single external screw. Next you turn the bottom plate left unscrewing an enternal screw locted in the south west corner of the device. Hope this helps.

No sound on my vector 940

Beltronics is now using a special "high temperature" speaker which resolves issues with speakers blowing due to high ambient temperatures. Contact Beltronics and schedule service for your V940. Not only will Bel replace the speaker with the newer model, but they will also test and calibrate your V940 and install whatever the current firmware is for your V940.

Repair or replace?

If the rip or split extends from the voice coil out to the edge, the speaker may be too far gone to replace. I have repaired expensive speaker cones with epoxy cement, provided the tear is fairly small or narrow. No noticeable degradation of performance either.

I have a beltronics 995 radar detector and i have a problem with it. The message "Service Required " appears. Please help . Thank you

This means that your RD has failed several attempts to self-calibrate its internal antenna. Like the message says, you must send in your V995 for service. Bel will fix whatever the issue is, and they will install the latest firmware too. Also, be sure to ask Bel to check and see if they need to replace the existing speaker with their new "high temp" speaker. The new speaker resolves potential issues of the original speaker failing due to high heat conditions.

No sound, voice or beeps

Good Day Joe,

Sounds to me like the internal speaker went, this is actually common on radar detectors. Although 9yrs is a lot longer than most will last. If you are handy with a soldering gun you can replace the internal speaker with a new one and get it working again. However be sure to take the unit apart before getting a new speaker so you can match up the size as it varies.

Good Luck and I hope thi shelps

No sound from the bel 880 radar detector

I have the same detector and my sound just went out, I called the number on the label on the bottom. They where very friendly and told me that it was more than likely the little speaker, they sell them for $8, if you are handy with a soldering iron its a simple task.

If your handy with a soldering iron its simple repair. Or they offer a trade up service, giving you like $80 towards a new unit.

Internal Speaker type/rating?

The speaker is a 28mm diameter 32 Ohm speaker. Bel/Escort now use a newer custom PUI manufactured "high temp" speaker which resolves issues of the speaker blowing out due to high temperatures. Contact Bel/Escort using their online chat feature on their web sites. Likely they will send you a replacement speaker for a cheap price which you can solder in yourself (assuming that your RD is out of warranty).
