It may be that neither are at fault, the problem is likely the heating element is burned out.

if the iron use electronic control, will be a little difficult to adapt or reset .However i recommend follow this steps and fix it. God bless you
Clean an iron:
  1. Unplug the iron and make sure it is cool before cleaning.
  2. Use a toothpick or pipe cleaner to remove buildup in the steam vents, making sure the debris doesn't fall into the vents.
  3. Use a fine sewing needle to carefully clean the spray nozzle of mineral deposits.
  4. To flush sediment from a steam iron, pour 1/2 cup water and 1/2 cup vinegar into the water tank. Place the iron on a rack over a broiling pan and set the iron to steam until the tank runs dry. Repeat if necessary. Or follow the instructions for using a commercial iron cleaner.
Service the steam and spray mechanism:
  1. Unplug the iron.
  2. Use a fine sewing needle to unclog the steam valve assembly. Also, check the valve spring and replace it if it is broken or has lost tension.
  3. If the spray pump is accessible, remove it and check for leaks by placing the spray tube in water and squirting the pump. Clean or replace as needed.
Clean a metal soleplate:
  1. Unplug the iron.
  2. Use a sponge and commercial soleplate cleaner or baking soda and water to remove dirt buildup on the soleplate. Rinse well with water and dry. Don't use harsh abrasives or immerse an electric iron in water.
  3. Use very fine steel wool (0000) or an emery cloth to remove scratches and burns on the soleplate, then clean the soleplate.

My iron will not stop flashing and will not go to green light -- it will not heat up

Hello :

Check the fuse first ! If the fuse is in good condition , then try this troubleshooting .

1: Make sure there's enough water in the tank if the iron won't steam. Fill the tank up .
2:Check that the iron is set to a steam setting. Some of the settings are dry and won't create steam.
3:Set the temperature dial to the shaded setting which represents steam. You'll see a little dark cloud-type icon with raindrops as opposed to a white cloud with a stripe through it. The dark cloud represents moisture (steam), and the white cloud with the stripe through it represents no steam.
4:Allow the iron to heat up for a while and to emit steam for a couple of minutes while pressing the extra-long burst button a few times. That should get rid of any impurities which can cause blockages. Try this if the iron hasn't been used for a while and steaming is intermittent.
5:Iron horizontally. Steam is only generated when the iron is horizontal.
6:Use the maximum steam setting when the iron is set to its maximum temperature setting.
7:Let the iron get to a high temperature before expecting steam. If the soleplate isn't hot enough, the water won't turn to steam and will in fact drip, spit or leak from the soleplate. Some Rowenta irons have an anti-drip system, which will turn off the steam when ironing at a low temperatures. Turn the temperature up, if needed.

My surfline emits calcium? along with the steam from plate

Empty about half the water (guess) out of the iron pour in straight white vinegar. Warm the iron up then shut it off and let it sit for an hour or so, then pour out the water vinegar mixture, it should have a kot of white calcium particles in it, I would do this a couple of times to be sure, rinse thorougly.

The first time you use it after that use it on an old towel first just to be sure.

If this works for you please respond. Thanks
