Hi, I have a SONY camcorder, model CCD-FX630 Handycam Video 8, that has always been lovingly cared for and not used much. When I plug in the AC adapter to the camcorder the adapter's power light turns on bright green but the camera is still dead, I can't get the tape out, I turn on the switch from lock to standby and press the red button to record - no sounds, no motion, nothing. I tried erasing the flat contact points - silver, on the adapter and reattaching to camcorder - nothing happened.

One, how can I get the tape safely out of the camera with not breaking anything?

Two, what is wrong (probably) with the camcorder (an internal battery?) and can I fix it myself?

Three, what and where and how much for the repair of the camcorder?

Thank you very much.

Best regards,

Hi,
Sony CCD-FX630 is 1994 model and it got problem of leaky electrolytic capacitors on its circuit boards.
Camera needs to replace all electrolytic capacitors on its circuit boards to work again.

Regarding no ejection of tape, this is because video head motor and capstan motor is not rotating ( because of capacitors) and I'm sure power supply in camcorder is not providing proper voltage too.

I been repairing Sony Camcorders since 1992 and have came across many times with this leaky capacitors problem in different models.

If you want to fix camera by yourself, you need to get Service Manual, solder iron to unsold bad capacitors and sold new capacitors, precision screw driver set to apart camera.

You can download Service Manual of CCD-FX630 from Manual Zone for small fee and required electrolytic capacitors can be purchased from HERE. Capacitor image is also there.

Thanks.
