SOURCE: GE Monogram side by side not cooling

I had the same problem. GE Man said that since the unit had been allowed to warm so much, we needed to empty it, unplug it, and totally leave it alone for 24 hours for any excess water to drain out. Then, we needed to plug it in and let it run with NO ITEMS INSIDE AND NO OPENING OF THE DOORS AT ALL for 48 hours. After that, we started using it again and it was Perfect!! I thought it was a lost cause, so this worked and didn't cost me a dime!!

No, it is not a failed condenser. You need to see if the compressor is running though. When it runs you shaould have a fan in the freezer running, a fan underneath the fridge running, and the compressor should be running. I would be willing to bet that either the compressor is bad, or the start relay on the compressor.

Kenmore side byside model# 363.9565482 does not cool/freeze after 3 day power outage .lights on & fan runs .tried unplug/replug & cleaning coils still not cooling .How do I fix?

First I would check cold control. Thats where you turn it off, if your temp is not warm. it seems
to be defective and not shutting off. If your temp is warm proceed with the following.
I would check the fan in the freezer. Listen to see if it is running
It moves air to the ref from the freezer
Then check to see if freezer control is turned WARMER, which makes the Ref. colder
Also this might be a common Defrost problem, Ice
is not being melted by the defrost system. The fan can't blow through the coils into the fridge.
Take out back panel of freezer to check for ice buildup. The coils should be clean.
There are three components to a defrost system- a heater, heater thermostat, and a timer unless you have a defrost electronic card.
Its best handled by a Technician but you could possibly do it by taking your model number to the nearest appliance parts store and asking for the parts. They are mostly located in freezer ,behind back panel on freezer coils.except the card which is usually located in ref The parts store will have info
Also check fan undernearh Ref in the rear
Clean condenser coils underneath
Check cold control (thats where you turn it colder)

The compressor runs and freezer is cold, however the refrigerator side isn't cooling well. Doesn't feel like any air is blowing in the fridge, only the freezer. I tried turning off/resetting the system...

Your model numbers are a waste of time...

Side by Side Refrigerator... PICK One...!!!

"The" fan...??

There should be TWO fans running...

and the FAN that REALLY make the difference in your
described symptoms ... will not run with the DOOR
open (your evaporator fan).

Possible issues:
Fan motor, blades/air blocked by ice, broken blade,
defective door switch or control board...

I always preach... giving a troubled refrigerator
a THREE DAY defrost... but the other day I found
a solid ice block sitting all SNUGGLY in the middle of
an evaporator...

If you are not willing to do that... (3 day defrost)
open it completely and have a REAL GOOD look
around the EVAPORATOR & FAN.

Never use HOT air... soft plastics can be easily ruined.

My kenmore fefrigerator not cold anymore, what should I check first pls!

Hi and welcome to FixYa. I am Kelly.

First check the freezer compartment for signs of ice build up. If the unit is running and not cooling. If you note ice build up do the following.

1. Unplug the unit.
2. Remove the contents of the freezer compartment.
3. Place a fan blowing into the freezer compartment of about 2 hours. (Makes a water mess. Mop and rags required)
4. After 4 hours wipe the internal cabinet dry.
5. Plug in the unit and let run about 30 minutes.
6. Reload freeezer contents.

This is a manual defrosting procedure. It will only provide relief from the symptoms of no cooling for around 2 days. If the manual defrosting returns the unit back to normal temps then you will need to have the unit serviced and the automatic defrost circuit repaired.
The problem can be
1. Defrost control,
2. Defrost heater element,
3. Wiring, or
4. The defrost thermostat.
Any one of the 4 can cause the problem.

If the compressor is NOT running at all the problem can be
1. Defrost thermostat.
2. Defrost control
3. PTC start relay or the KliXon thermal overload (2 part Assy)
4. Run capaicitor
5. Compressor
6. Temp control.

You did not provide a model number in your post so all of the above are GENERIC terms. If you need specific information you will need to respond with your model number.

Thanks for choosing FixYa.

I have a freezer that won't cool after storage

Hi,
It could have lost the refrigerant very slowly or there could be othere issues... need to put gauges on there and see for sure what is going on...

As the weather is getting warmer for many people their freezer and/or refrigerator do not work right because of a dirty condenser coil...

Check out this tip that I wrote about that... it is a great place to start trouble shooting your unit...and something that you can do rather then calling a repair person to do a simple thing for you...

Replacing a relay switch on a Kenmore Side by Side

The start run relay kicks the compressor on. If your compressor is running this is not your problem.
There are a number of things that can cause a fridge not to cool. A bad defrost system.. Check to see if you have ice build up in the freezer, or a lot of frost. Also a bad compressor. The relay switch sits on the compressor at the back of the fridge. If you put a new relay on and it won't start the compressor you have a bad compressor. Most compressors are warrantied through the manufacturer for at least 5 years. So if it's that call the manufacturer for replacement.

No you don't need to change the compressor you need to change that fan and you need to change the start relay overload and capacitor that goes to the compressor. What is the model number of your refrigerator so I can look up your parts

Old Upright Kenmore Freezer Help , please

If it is a shelve it is made for storage. A sign of imminent death on these old freezers would be its ability NOT to reach a low enough temperature when running. The older systems had heavier metals in the construction including the cooling systems. Some tips on keeping it happy would be to operate it in a place where you would be comfortable to sit for an extended period of time.
