SOURCE: hotpoint dishwasher bf1620 - 1st
I have had this problem twice now and the problem is water in the drip tray. The guys at Hotpoint eventually told me what the light meant as he wanted me to have an engineer and the manual does not say.!!
So if your up to it uplug from the mains and turn water off to the unit, pull the dishwasher out and lay it on its side (first putting down towels as the water will spill out depending where it was in the cycle when it stopped).
At the bottom of the dishwasher along both long sides there are 6 screws ( 3 each side) remove these easy peezy. Gently remove the tray/plate as it has connections there. You will probably notice the water on the tray or in the gubbins (nice word). Get a dry towel and dry what you can not forgetting the tray itself. Then and this is the important bit, use a hairdryer on all the gubbins and the metal insides DONT FORGET TO DO THE TRAY ITSELF. Take at least 20 mins to do this getting everything completly dry.
Then put together again, stand it up gently and try it.
You may or may not notice the water in the drip tray or on the gubbins, it does not take much for it to stop working.
This has worked twice for me. Also with the help of the internet and costing me £5 I was able to remove broken glass from the drain pump. I have saved myself a fortune.
This is from a woman who knows NOTHING about this sort of thing so if I can fix it anyone can.
Power to the girls !!!!

disconnect from mains take off water pump from under the washer and bench test (apply 240v to the contacts). If the pump turns and is OK refit it. |The next thing to do is replace the control panel behind the front door. the part you need is TIMER BIT100.1 'S5' ROHS + N1045048 and can cost from £37 - £90 try amazon. fit and fix. |The control panel provides 240v to the pump, hence why you should replace it because yours isn't possibly?. do continuity checks on the cabling.
