SOURCE: I am trying to install a van radio. When I hook

If it"s an aftermarket radio, orange wires often aren't used, (it's usually for dimming) try it without connecting the orange wire, but be sure not to leave the wire exposed.

SOURCE: i have a 1998 saturn

Hi, not sure what model you have, but you can get the factory wire colors here: http://www.modifiedlife.com/request-a-saturn-car-radio-stereo-wiring-diagram/
page down to select your model.

It sounds like you tapped into the brake light wire rather than the illumination wire. Also, there should be an antenna wire in the car if you have a retractable antenna. Did you purchase a GM connector with the new steroe to wire it in?

Check the large wires coming down the steering column from the ignition switch. Use a test light and find one that illuminates the test light with the key in the on position.

U f---ed up. How come you have those two wires not attached to anything? Never like that in first place, was it?

Go over all you did or better still have some one with smarts go over your work and , hopefully, they will find what you did wrong.

I'm putting panasonic cq-c1103u player into 2001 corolla using an adapter plug. I have all the wires connected from plug to player harness, but the is 2 wires left over from the plug, the blue power antena...

unless you have a power antenna or an external amp, all those are extra wires. just cap them off. the orange wire is only used if the radio has an illumination feature that allows dimming on the radio. it is not needed to see the radio. DO NOT connect the blue/white from the radio to the orange of the harness. whenever you turn the radio on it will send 12V to your cars illumination circuit. this could damage your lights, dash lights and maybe the radios output.

How do i hook up dimmer wire

If by dimmer wire, you mean the orange wire (also known as ''illumination''), 99% of the time, you don't. Otherwise, your brake lights or dash lights etc. could end up staying on. I believe that it's meant more for older older cars, but it's not necessary to hook it up. If that isn't what you meant, I apologize, if it is, I hope it helps!

Diagram wires on pionner.... some body know what is the wire orange with white on the pionner DEH-P4900ib??

In car audio wiring the orange/white wire is for illumination, connect it to your lighting switch it is to auto dim the display lights when you turn on your dash lights at night otherwise the pioneer display lights can be annoyingly bright at night. You don't have to hook it up if you don't want to, but don't forget to terminte the end of the orange/white wire with a crimp cap or black electric tape wrapped around the end well, I would recommend a crimp cap or similar. Good luck !

Head lights make the radio come on and , i have to unhook the cd player from the harness to cut off the parkinking and tail lights

on the back of the stereo (assuming it is an aftermarket unit) there are only 4 wires that deal with power.
Black- Ground
red- 12V+ turns on with the key
yellow- 12V+ always on
orange- illumination circuit,

the orange wire is most likely hooked up, it is intended to change the brightness of the radio when you turn on the headlights, however it always causes problems, best bet is to disconnect the orange wire, you do not need it, i am 99% sure it will not change the function on the lights on the deck.
dash lighting in cars runs on reverse polarity so a dimmer circuit can be used on a DC power system. the radio does not understand this and it causes strange issues like this one, give it a shot, please let us know how it goes.
thanks
JCC
