SOURCE: trying to replace 3 speed

Hi
The pull switch has 4 wires, L, 1, 2, 3.
Connect ' L' to the reverse switch red wire or the wire that is free.
Connect ' 3 ' to the main black ( hot ) wire entering the fan.
Connect ' 1 ' to the capacitor's lowest uF eg. ( 1.5 uF )
Connect ' 2 ' to the capacitor's next uF eg. ( 3 uF )
the Capaciotr also has to be connected to the neutral wire entering the fan, usually black attached to another color wire. If you have a VOM tester, veryfy that it is a neutral wire.

I have a hunter fan and im trying to replace the 3 speed fan switch with westing house 77286 colors i have are black green red and grey all help appreciated

I would guess black is hot, and red is hot--one to fan, one to light? Green is ground. Grey is neutral. Test everything with a circuit tester.

I have a Hampton ceiling fan, its got a four wire fan switch, home depot gave me a Westinghouse 77286 with L, 1, 2, 3 wire points the fan has a black, purple, brown and gray wire. What goes were?

Just because the switch looks the same on the outside doesn't mean it's the same on the inside. You should have written the info down before removing the old switch. Anyway, try this;
Black - L Brown - 1 Purple - 2 gray - 3
If this doesn't work you probably have the wrong switch.

Have have a westing house switch no.77286 with a l123 and colored black yellow blue and white color wire which color goes to those no.

The black usually goes to the L. The others you'll have to play with, If it's the correct switch. You should mark down what color wire goes into which slot BEFORE you take them out. DO NOT CUT WIRES!

My old ceiling fan capacitor has A B C D on the back , the new capacitor has 1 2 3 4, how do I connect the new one????

I just changed out an old ADCB (172-90-001 / 1-81-M) fan speed switch with a L123 3 speed switch (Westinghouse 77286). My fan was only 2 speed but the 3 speed switch was all the Home Depot had in stock. So I knew I would have OFF occurring twice in the pull sequence. Its an old Hunter fan that came with the house.

A-Unused
B-Went to 1 (Blue Wire)
C-Went to 2 (Red Wire)
D-Went to L (Black Wire)

I originally put B (the Blue Wire) into spot 3, leaving 1 unused. But that made the pull order go OFF-OFF-LOW-HIGH.

So moving the Blue Wire to the 1 slot resulted in OFF-HIGH-LOW-OFF

Hope this helps!
