Re: install screensaver

I didnt think Vista came with msvbvm50.dll. You could try to download msvbvm50 from the Microsoft website? Just a suggestion, not a definite fix.

Which Operating System is running on your computer? If it's Windows XP, you need to delete a file with the name "dwmapi.dll" in the C: drive's System32 folder under Windows folder. If I am right, the problem might have started after installing Mozilla Firefox. The reason is a wrong driver of Windows Vista installed on Windows XP system.

The process is like this:
Open My Computer, then "C:" drive, and again "Windows", locate "System32" folder and again locate "dwmapi.dll" in the System32 folder and delete the "dwmapi.dll". That should definitely do the trick.

Good luck.

Thanks for using FixYa.

The time out adjustment on my screensaver is grayed out, How do I fix it?

If you are using WinXP, on the "Display Properties", have you selected any themes for your screensavers?

If "None" is the selected, the time out adjustment is grayed out!!!

Install desktop theme

Hi there! Here's a solution to your problem. If you're using Vista WITHOUT SP1, Step 1: Download the UxTheme Patch from here. If you're using Vista WITH SP1, Step 1: Download the UxTheme Patch from here. Step 2: Login as a user with Administrative privileges -or- have Administrative credentials ready (check under the keyboard for a slip of paper). Step 3: Navigate to %systemroot%\System32 Step 4: Right-click uxtheme.dll and click properties. Step 5: Take ownership of the file and close dialogs. Step 6: Repeat steps 3 and 4 for themeui.dll and shsvcs.dll Step 7: Right-click uxtheme.dll and click properties. Step 8: Give yourself (or group) Full Control permissions and close dialogs. Step 9: Repeat steps 6 and 7 for themeui.dll and shsvcs.dll. Step 10: Rename uxtheme.dll to uxtheme.old. Step 11: Rename themeui.dll to themeui.old. Step 12: Rename shsvcs.dll to shsvcs.old. Step 13: Copy patched files into %systemroot%\System32 Step 14: Reboot After you have applied the patch, you can copy the theme into your Windows/Resources/Themes folder!

Unknown dll

I suggest that it might be tied to some malware installed on your computer.

To get rid of all the problems....

This is what you want to do:

1) Go to CCleaner - Home and download that and install

2) Get on google and type in " spyware doctor starter edition" find that, download it and install

3) Ad-Aware @ Lavasoft - The Original Anti-Spyware Company - Lavasoft and download adaware

4) Anti-Spyware, Anti-Malware, Email Security Software and Firewall and download counterspy

5) -- download avg antispyware free edition

1) Run ccleaner to clear out your temporary files

2) Go to the start orb and type "msconfig". Look for any references to the .dll file in there, and if you see it, disable it. You can also disable and unneeded startup items while your here if you choose. REBOOT

3) Install and update (if you didn't already) the antispyware software, run FULL scans with all of them (one at a time preferably). All should be well after the scans complete

4) ???

5) Enjoy!

As for the error message.. does it pop up when you boot up your computer? Did you recently install something that might be questionable?
Try uninstalling whatever it is that you recently installed. Also, look at the tutorials here to learn how to enable and disable start up programs.

Hope my info solves your problem,
Thanx for using fixya........

Vista uses a different technology for screen savers than in the past. The screensavers and backgrounds are active. Older screensaver software (I inferred from your post that you had a favorite that both of you used and not one from MS) will probably not work here.
