No Spin No Drain

Washer finishes the wash cycle but wont drain or spin. Moved the switch to the rinse cycle and agitates and will fill with water.. at the end - no spin no draining - lid switch does click but I am having trouble getting access to the switch itself to check for continuity.... Washer is model 110 91512210 ... any way to get just the lid off without taking the whole thing apart?

Thanks

Same problem machine won't go into spin cycle. I need to know how to get to the switch. Do I need to take the back off. My switch is on the right hand side. I thought I could flip the top up like a stove top. Nope. I stuck my finger in the hole and it shocked the hell out of me. 2 parts came off a silver piece...i guess its the guard to keep water out of the switch area and a grey piece with a spring on it...it looks like the piece that triggers all the action. Please help me get the top off so I can see what the problem is. Im a single mom and all the repair stores are saying up to $150 no less than $100 for labor and parts. I wanna fix it myself (Cheaper and more affordable for me)

Lid switch is most likely the problem, if lid switch is visible under lid on right side then this is older design and common problem switch.
if you have console frame covers on front sides, snap off from top, a screw is at bottom front corners of console, remove and pull console forward and fold back. If lid swich is hidden then you will see it at left on top of cabinet with console folded back. a 5/16 screw holds a green ground wire to cab. remove and switch will unclip with lid up. If lid switch was visible under lid then you need to remove 2 brass clips holding cabinet on top of base to back, pry with screwdriver to unclip. undo harness connection on cabinet top, this is your lid switch connection. sw body is held by 2 phillips screws, harness tube held by clips on underside of cabinet top. ground wire with 5/16 screw present at sw body. New versions of this switch have metel shield attached.

My Kenmore compact washer with dryer on top, will not go from the first wash-rinse-drain-spin cycle to the second rinse-drain-spin-off cycle.

Check and make sure the door is pushed all the way down until you hear a click. If it starts with the next cycle, then your door switch may be bad. It's a pretty easy fix, but I would watch a video at least before doing it yourself.

Washing Machines will not rinse or spin

If the water won't drain out of your washing machine, either something is stuck in the drain hose or pump, or the pump is broken. Both fixes are simple if you're even just a little bit handy with tools. We're showing the repair on a Maytag washing machine.
What is wrong with a washer that does not spin?
If your washer fills with water but doesn't agitate, the problem is likely to be a faulty lid switch, a broken belt, or a problem with the motor. (Note: Direct-drivewashing machines do not have belts.) To diagnose the problem, do the following: 1Check the washing machine's spin cycle.

What causes a washing machine not to drain and spin?
If the washer won't drain there might be a clogged pump or hose. It's common for small socks or other small clothing items to get into the water drain system and clog the hose leading to the pump or the pump itself. Remove the hoses from the pump in order to remove the article of clothing.

Possible that the drain pipe is in a height where the water is struggling to lift.
If not id check for a block. I normally find a sock stuck in the drain hose which causes a problem similar to yours

Does washer drain before the spin cycle starts?

Normally yes. There are around 12 to 20 gallons of water in the tub after the wash cycle, which will be anywhere from 63 to 110 pounds of weight in addition to the weight of the clothes. For the machine to start the spin cycle to remove this water would place a heavy load on the motor, gearcase, pullys, belts, gears, ect. With the water drained, the load is lighter, and much easier to start spinning the excess water out of the clothes. The normal cycles are: Fill, Agitate, Drain, Spin, Rinse Fill, Agitate for rinse, Drain, Spin Cycle and off. Imagine trying to spin a 5 gallon bucket of water over your head, full of water, and then empty. Which one do you think would be easier to do? And safer for you.

GE Top Load Washing Machine -- Agitator will not cycle

Agitator's don't spin on wash cycle.

I would suggest washing the clothes without soap until they rinse clear. If you have hard water, the soap will not easily rinse out of clothes, or off of you when you use soap to wash or shower.

Reduce the amount of soap you use in each wash if this is the case. It sounds like your washing machine is working right.
