SOURCE: The Vol button on my Onkyo RC-588M remote doesn't work

It probably can be fixed. Dirt and such gets on the contact pads...take it apart by carefully unscrewing it and remove the top half with the buttons facing you. You will likely see that the buttons are made of molded sheet of silicone, lift that off. Beneath where the mold was for the volume control you will see the actual buttons that control the volume, inspect it to see if it simply got pressed down too far and try to operate it that way and clean anything that needs it while you have it open. If it works without the silicone button cover panel on it, then you can take a small peice of paper wad and tuck it into the mold for the volume button so that when you press on it, it always makes contact.

How do I program an AT&T u-verse remote to an ONKYO RC-866M remote

The RC-866M is the remote. What you need to do is add the codes for your Onkyo receiver into the ATT remote. There are 4 or 5 different Uverse remotes, but most can be reprogrammed by pressing the 'Menu' and 'OK' button together. First add your Onkyo codes to the ATT remote as an 'aux' device. After that is working, you can control the power and volume by adding the 'aux' device (Onkyo) to the power and volume buttons on the uverse remote.

These are all the different Onkyo Receiver codes:
Onkyo: 5002, 5018, 5073, 5074, 5075, 5076, 5077, 5078, 5079, 5080, 5081, 5082, 5084, 5085, 5086, 5087, 5130, 5131, 5140

This is how to reprogram the S10 style of Uverse remote:

Would you like help programming your Onkyo remote control to control other devices?

To program your Onkyo remote control, follow these steps:

  1. Hold down the REMOTE MODE button for which you would like to enter a code, and keep pressing it down.
  2. Press and hold down the DISPLAY button until the remote indicator lights up (about 3 seconds).
  3. Within 30 seconds, use the number buttons to enter the 5-digit remote control code for your device. (look these Onkyo remote control codes up in the codes list.)
  4. The remote indicator will flash twice to indicate a successful programming.

The Onkyo remote control codes, listed by brand, are available here.

I hope that helps.

Remote doesn't operate reciever

Hello Fixya customer,

Thank you for your question.

Please determine if the "Audio" button is actually working.... after pressing the audio button, can you still control the DVD, if not then the remote has switched to the Onkyo. Although, this is not 100% conclusive, unless you have a 2nd remote to test the Onkyo with, it provides a sound basis to proceed.

Assuming the remote is transmitting and the IR receiver on the front of the Onkyo is not otherwise blocked, likely faults include the IR receiver, input to the Micro processor, and the Micro processor.

The most probable fault is the IR receiver.

Thank you for using Fixya, and if I can help you further, please let me know.

My Onkyo DR90 DVD Remote Will Not Operate Components

Your Onkyo DR90 DVD Receiver remote control does not have universal remote functions, and cannot be (easily) programmed to control a Panasonic DMR ES15. Your DR90 remote does have a limited learning function, but it is designed to learn the codes from your TV's remote to control the TV. Only the following buttons are programmable by the TV Learning function:

I hope that helps.

Onkyo remote won't control Samsung components.

I got an Onkyo RC-717M remote control. It is the remote that comes with the Onkyo TX-SR706 receiver. It is a learning remote. When i entered the cde for the Samsung Blu-Ray it did the same thing as the other remotes I got from Onkyo, the pause, next / previous track buttons wouldn't work for the Samsung BD-P3600. I used the learning function of the new remote and programmed it to work. It works ok now but it sure was a hassle to get it done. In fairness i should have called Onkyo support but their support hours don't match my schedule.

Onkyo htr 330 universal remote codes

I have the HT-R570 Receiver and here's what I ended up doing to use the Verizon FIOS DVR remote to turn the receiver on and off with volume control. Know that Onkyo uses 2 codes 1 for on and 1 for off so use the AUX for ON with Volume control and the DVD for OFF. (I rarely use my DVD and when I do I use the DVD remote that came with the DVD)

Use the AUX and codes 1347 or 1558 to turn the receiver on with volume control. Press AUX and OK together and release. Enter the code. it should now turn the receiver ON with volume control.

To use the DVD button to turn the Receiver OFF, you have to use the search method to capture the code. Tried every code I could find on the internet and their is no universal code for OFF and ON.) With the receiver ON, push down DVD and OK together and release (should get 2 flashes of all component keys) enter 922 and with remote pointing at the receiver press the >" (forward/pause button) then press and release the >> (fast forward button) until the receiver turns off. If you go too fast and go past it, quickly turn receiver back on (within 20 seconds) and press-release the <<(backwards button) slowly until it turns off again. Then press the OK button to store the OFF code in the DVD function button. Any questions...E-Mail me at MrBlueOcean@verizon.net Lots of Luck!

Code for Verizon FIOS remote Control

I have a solution which has worked well for me. It uses the DVD button at the top of the remote. It was a trade-off as none of the codes in the RC144 Philips remote will work any Blu-ray players, so the DVD button was unassigned. The 922, 955 and 977 codes are explained in the directions for the FIOS remote. http://onlinehelp.verizon.net/consumer/bin/pdf/philips%20rc1445302%20user%20guide.pdf
1. Set up your TV button to work your TV.
2. Set up your Onkyo code, pick one to turn on the receiver. I used 3719
3. Use the 9-2-2 code to cycle through all available codes. At about a count of 300 I found one which will turn the Onkyo receiver off. Make sure you start this process with the ONKYO receiver already on. Once you find it press the OK button.
4. Use the 9-7-7 code to power all devices TV, AUX and DVD from the power button.
In this way, each time the power button is pressed it will send both the power on and power off signal to the ONKYO receiver.
This technique works well when you point the remote at the ONKYO receiver and press power button. Apparently the TV has better reception for the signal then the ONKYO does.
