Most times that is a defrost drain blockage behind the rear wall of your freezer back panel. Sometimes the door seals allow some moisture to accumulate if air is drawn in through the seals leaking or the door to the dispenser is stuck open. But when you say it has accumulated in a pool of ice on the bottom of the freezer then the drain is blocked. I'm going to send you to some links and I want you to read through most of what is said and just use the parts the refer to your refrigerators problem, Sea Breeze

SOURCE: Whirlpool side by side with a broken water dispenser

you may have a sticking water lever or a bad water valve.
the lever can be changed from the front and you should know if it sticks.
the water valve can be replaced from the rear of your unit. it is the plastic part where the water line hooks up to the unit.

Water dispence slow

do you know if it is a whirlpool made model, 27ft french door, ice maker in ceiling, they had issues with a seal between ice compartment and ref side- leaks freezing air to water tank area, freezing tank. other wise if its not the filter -then water flow to unit. ck where it connects to ref, if good( should have steady stream with press. replace ref valve if bad look at your valve in wall or at sink.

Water does not come out of door. I can hear the click and the ice is working on the other side so it is getting water.

check your water tank in the ref. looking under the veg. drawers. there it should be on the back of ref. if no water than your solenoird in back of ref. might be bad. there is two one for ice maker one for water.. ok

The icemaker does not work and the water in the door has stopped. The last time water came out it looked colored. Is there a filter that I am supposed to replace? If so where is it?

some models do have a water filter, which is either located at the bottom outside of the ref. on the kickplate,(grill), or inside the ref. itself on the ceiling. If both water to the ice maker and the drinking water stopped at the same time that is more than likely the problem.

Whirlpool ref side by side.. water will not flow into ice maker so it makes no ice . Water does come out of drinking dispenser

The start device on some models of refridgerator for maytag and whirlpool have been recalled. If your appliance was manufactured in the last 5-10 years you may be having an issue with this component. Mine recently caught on fire at this device that is located near the compressor. If you would like to be a part of the petition for a recall on this appliance contact me at [email protected]

I have a whirlpool ref side by side the water

Your water line could be frozen in the door. You can disconnect the line under the unit before it goes into the door at the bottom hinge. Push the dispenser button and see if it comes out there. If it does leave the door open till it thaws

OR
disconnect the line to the water dispenser at the water inlet valve on the back where the water supply comes in and try the dispenser. if you hear the valve work but water doesn't come out, the valve is bad. If you don't hear the valve, the dispenser switch is bad.

Ice stopped working but the water is still coming out of the door.

The valve on the back of the ref. that your home line goes to may be bad. It is a dual valve, one goes to the water in the door and the other to the icemaker.

ICE MAKER QUIT MAKING ICE ON MY WHIRLPOOL FRIDGE

I had a Whirlpool Model GD5SHAXNS in which the icemaker quit working about the same time (3 years old). I had water out the dispenser, I found that it was the icemaker itself failed not calling for water to fill it. I replaced it with a icemaker on-line for about $100 and problem fixed. I have been told his is a common problem with the icemaker in this model ref.
