The knob on my kenmore elite won't move the timer.

The knob itself turns the switch on . The skirt move the timer position. Try turning the skirt. You probably have a broken knob. On these the knob is held in place with a plastic rod inserted into it all the way. This spreads the tip and retains the knob. To get the knob off to yank out the skirt for a look see you need to pull that rod out a tad to release the knob. 88be11a.jpgThat shaft has a rounded end on it that spreads out and locks the knob on. Clever ain't it? These timers are cheaply made, if you cannot find fault with the knob or the skirt then you is gonna need a timer.

Water is not flowing in when turned on.

There are 2 solenoid valves that control the hot and cold water that fail occassionally. Try running just the hot or cold water (Its unlikely they both failed at the same time). If either the hot or cold works, then you have a bad solenoid valve. They cost about $25

Make sure you have the knob on a cycle selection. Sometimes while loading, you may hit the knob and get it just in between a selection and might not start. If that isn't it, I would say you need to replace your start button. Take the control panel off and if you have a volt meter, test to see if there is a current.
