Need more info on condenser itself the model number not coming up but the nomenclature u gave looks to be a 4 ton unit. why I say that is the 48 normally represents the btu's 12000 btu per ton. so 48 represents 48000 btu 4 ton. now this depends on your house 400 square feet per ton is a rule of thumb without doing a proper house inspection. how many windows type of windows all kind of stuff. so 4 ton is roughly good for a 1600 square foot house depending on all kinds of variables. if I can get a full model even if it shows ----00-- something like that I can give you a for sure answer. u may even get an r-22 unit which u can buy only as a dry unit companys still make them but can no longer ship them with r-22 in the they come charged with nitrogen which will save you a few grand on install because you don't have to change the indoor coil to a proper sized 410 a coil or the lineset. be aware of contractors who tell u to keep the indoor coil they will add a expansion valve and flush the lines with r-11 or rx-11 flush u wont get the efficiency or 100 percent working condition of a mix mash system.

A new unit will be 13+ seer unless you can find someone that has replaced a compressor or has one left over from pre 2006 stock. Our wise Government with all its resources decided that we aren't smart enough to turn off the lights to save energy, so they chose to end the med and low price lines. And the same bunch of smart ones decided that now R22 because of its chlorien content being bad for the air (5% of what R12 was) so we have R410A and others that no one knows how much cancer or daMAGE THEY WILL DO OVER TIME. So now if you replace your AC unit out side with a new one be sure its compatable with the refrigerant inside and beware soem manufacturers wont stand up to full warranty if you dont buy an indoor coil and rerplace it too.
We get what we deserve in Washington DC and if our guy didnt support this stuf too many other folks guys did. We just dont talk about it enough. AND WE SHOULD. But then again you like me are probably RITCH. So we have to give up our wealth to the government so they can redistribute it and buy more votes. And we can stay working too much to talk about it.
Just burns my back side like a 4 foot flame.

Buy your self a compressor and get someone qualified to install it or see if the old goodman one will interchange easily.

Its done all the time. It is sometimes better to do this because you run a colder coil and rmoves more humidity. The newer unit have variable speed fan and run slower to do the same thing. Remember the lower the humidity the higher you can raise your tsta. Example In arizona at 95 degrees you dont feel the heat as much because of the lower humidity. Its ok to do so. You get more btus out of your unit that way. Rus. I have dozens of units with air handlers 1/2 ton smaller...

There should be a nomenclature tag on the exterior of the unit by where the electrical enters the unit. It states the refrigerant type .

Both the other solutions are NOT proper Advice, i'm not saying this a put down, but if you want it to be right both of those answers are wrong
The truth is if you replace the condenser weather its a heat pump or strait cool, you need to match the equipment inside, ALWAYS use matched equipment otherwise your setting yourself up for failure. I've seen a ton of mechanics in my industry really mess people up by mis matching, Also you can install or service anything with refrigerant in it with out an EPA license. Trust me do it right, cause I hate having to tell people after its to late. Another thing these two are not telling you is that you need to match the metering device to the outdoor unit in order for it to work properly as well, and by the FLUSHING is risky on a coil, ok with line sets but risky with a coil.
