Question about Washing Machines

Open Question

Our Samsung top load washing machine model SW65V9W seems to be collecting black specks from somewhere and for the last 2 weeks all the clothes washed have these specks on them. Both filters have been cleaned regularly. We usually only do cold water washing but I have run 2 loads with hot water and no clothes to help flush the specks away but they are all still in the machine even when we physically remove them more come. They look like some kind of residual deposit which is flaking off.

I removed the base agitator inside the machine and found some remnants of mould which we then scrubbed away with a brush and washed toroughly. Also vacummed up all the black specks inside the machine and did an empty load with hot water and toilet cleaner. All specks seem to have gone now.

SOURCE: Black mark on clothes after washed in Maytag top load washer.

Check and make sure the seal at the bottom of the washer is not wore out. Alot of times you will get grease from the bearins and drum assembly if this wears out.

You have taken the necessary steps to reduce the lint problem. It seems they have not worked sufficiently. Another lint factor is due to HARD WATER.
You may have to disassemble the washer and remove the inner wash tub. On the bottom of the wash tub is a self cleaning lint filter. It may be gummed up with detergent and lint not allowing it to do its job. It will have to be manually cleaned.

Look for a filter, it may be breaking down. The supply lines should have screens. If they don't, disconnect them from the machine and run some water into a tub while shaking the lines to see if any specks come out. Once the lines are checked, go down the path, checking each hose for decay inside. Even check the pump impeller for decay. Check the specks to see if they are mold, which could be growing somewhere between the tubs.

My samsung top loader washing machine sw65v9w won't stop filling with water

If the water stops when you stop the cycle, then the pressure sensor is at fault. If you need to turn the water supply off to stop it, then the water inlet valve is at fault.

I have a 5.5kg Top Load Fisher & Paykel Washing Machine MW512. The clothes seem to come out with alot of dust particles on them. Is there somewhere in the washing machine where it is collecting this...

Hi - are these particles kinda ash grey black in colour? if they are then the bellows have sprung a leak.. unfortunartely the only way is to replace the inner stainless drum.

Inspect the top of the bowl for any signs of structural damage along the grey plastic housing as it contains very fine sand used to counter balance the inner bowl.. on rare ocassions these leaks and give you the particle effect similar to what you've described..

I just washed a load of white towels they came out spotted with brown and black spots with a line of black goo at the water line machine is less than 3 years

your using to much soap, the collection has come off the rim of your stainless tub. by using a white cloth an cleaner you can wipe it off clean. the gasket <rubber seal> is probabbly that way too. you can buy affresh tablets an clean your washer weekly, follow the directions on the package.
you should be using 2 tablespoons of detergent per load. 1 tablespoon on delicates.

Hi bob, have you tried cleaning the dispencer drawer that supplys the detergent to the tub? in some cases over time the detergent holder can collects small amounts of powder that can dry out and stick to the walls of the holder and when the machine is in its spinning stage can sometimes vibrate the dry powder in turn cause the powder to enter the tub also there can be a huge build up of liquid detergent like softners that can form a hard black residue in the holder in turn causing the clothes to collect black paticles. If all is ok then you could try applying a hot wash cycle without any clothes in the tub to flush the bowl from any contaminents, thumbs up if this helps thanks.

Hi just read your posting. Now you mentioned that the specks are not lint.In my service manual it states that if you use fabric softener then this can build up in the bowl and leave black flakes on the clothes.Try filling machine on a hot wash and pour into bowl 1 or 2 cups of automatic dish washing power and leave the machine to soak overnight. In the morning restart cycle and let it go all the way throe. Please reply on how this worked and for further advice.Looking forward to your reply.

Black specks on cloths after washing

I can't solve your problem, but I can say I have the same problem. I think grease is getting past the seals and getting into the washing basket with the cloths. I have a repair guy coming tonight. Hopefully he will confirm and fix. My machine is 9 years old and never a problem..till now.

The problems posted by kim875 and kirsty2 all seem to be the result of faulty signals from the electronic board. This seems to be a real problem with this model machine. I would try to get board replaced under warranty , if at all possible.

Black particles in clothes after using a top loading samsung fully automatic washing machine

You said these particles stick to the clothes, do they come off and then leave a stain? It may be grease or oil coming from a leaking drum bearing seal.
If it is, This is a major repair and not one for DIY.
