Question about JVC GR Video Cameras
When i play the tapes it stutters for a second then plays thern stutters then plays and so it continues. as i fast forward i hear a clicking sound as if a gear is loose or something. what could be a solution for this?
Anything with a cassette in it has belts and capstans, play heads and runner rollers. The belt is likely stretched and sticky, replace it with a new belt. I use a product called rubber renue on the roller to stop it from sticking to the tape.

SOURCE: Eating the tape
It sounds as if the takeup spool isn't doing it's job. It could be caused by a slipping belt or slipping clutch assembly. Unless you know your way around the unit (internally) I'd advise a repair shop have a look at it. BMW

SOURCE: Will not playback tapes
a sony cleaning cassette may clear the gunk from your friend ' s possibly ? bad tapes ( do not rewind it - or the gunk will be redeposited ) ; if still no video , get an estimate to have your heads and guides cleaned . . . professionally ;

the clicking is from the capstain turning the tape -- and perhaps the metal cage holding the tape.. if it is bent then the movement of the capstain may be pushing it in an eccentric fashion.
send it in for repair.
