Question about Maytag (MFI2568AEW) Bottom Freezer French Door Refrigerator
Our icemaker motor is frozen. It makes ice fine but will note dispense the ice. When you press the lever on the front of the door to get ice it just hums. I called a local repair guy and he said before coming to my house and having to charge me I should try emptying, unplugging the whole fridge and let it defrost over night. Silly question but do I need to worry about water coming out of the fridge/freezer as it defrosts? where will that water go and will it just refreeze back up when I plug it back in? He said it was probably that the motor was frozen since there is frost on the vent and if I put any food too close to the icemaker it freezes.
a 6ya expert can help you resolve that issue over the phone in a minute or two.

Kat, you only have 1 problem happening. And no this is not due to the original repair. (though I have to admit... replacing the filter/drier, starter and compressor is NOT part of routine maintenance and has me a little befuddled.) Your evaporator drain is plugged. Most likely with what we in the biz call "bio-gookus". This is normal, but must be cleared to keep the water from puddling and coming out your freezer door. With the evap panel removed and the drain hole exposed, pour 1/4 cup of HOT water into the drain hole. Use a small screwdriver or other small instrument to pick out the ice buildup. Once this is clear, use something like this http://www.azpartsmaster.com/shopazp/Gallo+Condensate+Blowout+Guns+(A66800).html to blow out the rest of the lines. After doing this, pour more hot water into the drain to verify free flow. This will take care of your leak problem. Now... the frost buildup. NEVER RUN YOUR FRIDGE WITH THE PANELS OFF! They are there for a reason, believe it or not. They direct air flow across the coils (both evaporative and condensing). Frost buildup is normal, though you may be experiencing higher levels of frost because of the panel missing...Your fridge utilizes an automatic defrost system. It'll initiate every 8 hours. This is controlled by a timer located in your fresh food section. The defrost heater RARELY fails on these. Fix the evaporator drain and replace all panels. This will solve your dilemma.

call a repair man, it is either the defrost timer, defrost heater or the heater cut off that has gone. even if you take the insides apart you will not be able to see anything.

I have had the same problem with different problems each time. The first time the stop lever came loose on one end. This resulted in the ice maker remaining in the off position but looked like iWhen I removed that it worked again. Hope this helps

I really believe your adaptive defrost located inside the fresh food compartment and inside the control panel is defective. It puts your refrigerator on a timely defrost and if defective this problem you listed in your post happens. Yes we may need to also check the defrost heater and defrost thermostat but with my experience with that type of Adaptive Defrost Control is famous for its failure.
ADAPTIVE DEFROST CONTROL Part Number 61005988 You can find it located on two of my websites. Some models like yours came with a Defrost Timer. We will need just look inside the control panel and see for sure. Here is a photo of the Adaptive defrost. If you should need to contact me please send an email or try to answer here. Problem is I don't get notifications when someone comments. firstname.lastname@example.org
Please rate and ask me as much as you like. Thank You, Sea Breeze
