Westinghouse service manual

I would expect that it means tuning to every possible over the air and cable channel it is designed to receive to see what, if anything, is available on each of those frequencies at that input.

It's probably the kind of thing it might do the first time you plug the set in, and can probably be repeated if you wish by finding a command in the menu somewhere that says something about channels and scanning.

It's not really something the remote control would do, it's something the unit controlled by the remote control would do.

What exactly is the problem you're trying to solve?

I want to go to channel 3 so i can go on cable , but the remote doesnt let me !

Hello; All TV's made in the last 20 years are computer controlled. The TV wants you to do a "scan ", so it can MEMORIZE all active channels. IF you are connecting your set to a cable BOX or OTHER, the set can only SEE the Channel 3 output from the boxes. No scan will work when doing this! In this case don't expect to be able to use the channel UP or Down keys on the set or remote, because the set does not know any channels due to no memory of a scan. You can, however key in the channel # and the set should go to that channel, unless the set is defective. John
