Question about Sewing Machines

White 1099 sewing machine. Needle and handwheel do not move after filling bobbin. I recall hearing something fall when I disengaged the wheel. How do I repair it? What did I do wrong?) (Where can I find a repair manual?)

I don't know this make but if it is NOT electronic you could try using a magnet to remove whatever fell in. Or turn it upside down and shake it out. Sounds like it is stuck in the mechanism.

SOURCE: can't tighten clutch on Kenmore zig zag sewing machine.

The clutch has fallen off the shaft. Remove the very small screw in the clutch release screw to remove the clutch release. Place the clutch(round thing with ears on it) back on the shaft with the center ears pointing towards the outside. Put the clutch release screw back on. Tighten it to make sure it works
properly. Put the small screw back in the clutch release screw and test it again. If it will not tighten or release properly, remove the clutch ,rotate it180 degrees and try it again. This should solve your problem.

SOURCE: thread jams & wheel axel cannot turn

there are a couple of things that come to mind.
Bobbin:   wound with uneven tension.  Try taking the bobbin, rewind that thread onto another bobbin and wind slowly.  make sure the thread feeds onto the new bobbin evenly.
upper thread:  catching on something or not flowing off the spool easily.
you're doing well, sounds like you consulted the manual and used your noggin, hang in there and let me know if this doesn't help.  we can troubleshoot some more!

SOURCE: I have a kenmore sewing

Usually when you pull the clutch knob out it disengages the sewing machine needle shaft. At least, that is how my 2 Kenmore's work. You can always take your machine into Sears sewing department and ask the sewing machine salespeople for help, they are really helpful in my area and more than happy to help you for free. Good luck

WhenI turn the inside nob the needle works but not when I turn the outer nob, it just turns and nothing happens WhenI use the peddle the outernob spins but again the needle doesnt work (nob=handwheel)

On most machines, when the inner wheel is turned counter clockwise, it engages the bobbin winder and disengages the needle movement.

To disengage the bobbin winder and sew, turn the inner wheel clockwise as far as it will go. This should engage the sewing capability and it should work either by hand rotating the large wheel (always counter clockwise!) or with the foot pedal. If it does not, then you most likely need to have your machine serviced.

The handwheel will turn manually but it will not move using the foot pedal. The sound it makes when I press on the foot pedal *sounds* like I am filling the bobbin.

The machine will not turn the spindle to wind cotton onto the bobbin.

What model Bernina is it? Most operate on a simple system where a rubber wheel on the bobbin winder comes into contact with the handwheel (under the cover) ... the handwheel is disengaged so the needle has no drive.......

.... if it was sewing fine before the bit 'dropped off' it probably doesnt need the other thing done - they just are standard type check / adjust things done with a service. Weigh up how much a new machine will cost you v the repair. How happy are you with it? How often do you use it?
I am not familiar with this model, but the 'clutch' is generally a very simple setup. If you feel confident and can get the end cover off , have a peek - find the bit that dropped off ......
The only tension you should need to adjust is the bobbin tension - which I am sure you already know how to. Top tension is normally just a clean out of fluff etc.

Have a singer 3221/3232 cannot disengage handwheel to fill bobbin what am I doing wrong

Are you sure you have to pull or push? It looks to me like you just slide the bobbin winder spindle to the right to engage.

Here's a manual for your machine... I'm sure more specific info is in there.

I plugged in my machine after it had been sitting idle for about a year. I have power and can hear the motor turning, but the needle doesn't move. It acts like a 'clutch' has been disengaged....

does sound like machine is in bobbin winding mode. The clutch may be disengaged by an inner wheel on the flywheel, flicking the bobbin spindle over or a button.

Best thing is to check the manual for your machine as they all vary. Go to http://www.singerco.com/accessories/instruction-manuals/search
then type in the model number with a w in front and click search.

The White and Singer manuals are listed here and many are free downloads as pdfs.

I hope this helps you out.

Threading the bobbin, disengage the needle

Depending what brand and model of sewing machine it is, you can usually disengage the needle bar with the knob inside the handwheel by turning it towards you. If you've done that and the needle bar still moves, it needs oil and should be serviced by a technician.

Bobbin filling

The handwheel may have a pull out/push in action to disengage/engage the clutch, or it may automatically disengage when the bobbin winder is moved to the right for winding........hold a short tail of thread to get it started and you should be away.

Move the winder to the left for sewing, or push handwheel in, according to the mechanism.
