You can check your drives by going to disk management.

Do a right click on computer then go to manage and after that go to disk management.

If you can see your drive there, then it must work fine.

Let me know the result.

I think you are trying to use BitLocker but the TPM (Trusted Platform Module) is not available or not supporting.

Refer the below link for "How To Use BitLocker on Drives without TPM"

I'm at my nephews, and he has been on my x61, haven't got a clue what he has done, but now locked out and reading 'windows bitlocker drive encryption pin entry' I haven't got any codes or passwords with...

Sounds as if he may have activated 'bitlocker' on your drive. Ask him for the pin code he used and if you get in disable 'bitlocker'. Highlight the drive in My Computer>right click and select turn off bitlocker.

I hope he remembers the pin code he used!

Dell Media Direct Cannot access hard drive due to bitlocker encry

Sounds like the hard drive was encrypted prior to the upgrade to SP2.

If that's the case, you may have created a password during the encryption process. See this reference to recall the steps for encrypting a hard drive with Bitlocker.

Follow the steps for unlocking your hard drive and you should be ok.

If for some reason, you never encrypted the hard drive and do not have a password, then the encryption may have been caused by some bug in the upgrade and you should contact Microsoft to resolve.
