Question about Heating & Cooling

1 Answer

I have a goodman gmpno 60. I have a lot of flame rollout especially on ignition rolls all the way out the box. After ignition and before Blower kicks on still have flame rollout but is more after Blower comes on. I replaced heat exchanger and now have this problem. When putting heat exchanger in could this be a poor seal on the ports of exchanger when sealed with high heat atv

This was my 1st thought after a crack. The fact the indoor blower affects it is a give away. I would get a carbon monoxide detector, if it goes off you have some work to do.

On the error code list, I'm getting an error code of Open Rollout, How do you fix that?

a 'roll-out' safety switch it a small button looking device with a smaller tab/button sticking out of it, near the gas injection manifold. has 2 wires attached. the reset button is generally between these wires. it's designed to shut the unit off, by breaking the power circuit, if flame ignition causes fire to back flash out of the fire box. Press the little button and try relighting. if the roll-out pops again, and there was no roll out of flame, you made need to replace it.

Unfortunately that means there's a hole in the heat exchanger, particularly in that cell of it. When the main blower comes on the air is pushed into the heat exchanger, causing the flame rollout. A heat exchanger crack or blowout is usually what condemns a furnace for good. Goodmans however, have a lifetime warranty on their heat exchangers, so you'll probably be able to find someone to replace it pretty cheap, or do it yourself for free.

Rollout switch continues to trip

If you have a cracked heat exchanger this will cause the flames to rollout and trip this switch. Its meant to stop the furnace from running and putting carbon monoxide in your home. Watch the furnace as it tries to light if when the gas valve opens and flame is established it should go into the tubes heat the heat exchanger and then your main blower motor will come on. When your main blower comes on is usually when you see the flames rollout and trip that switch. If this happens you can either buy a heat exchanger or new furnace if its a older unit Obama still has that awesome tax credit til 12-31-2010.

My circuirt board has a rapid flashigh trouble light, and the blower does not shut off. What seems to be the problem?

with just the information you have provided, i would guess you have a rollout sensor somewhere that has been tripped. there are usually a push button reset on the goodman models. this usually happens when you have flame outside the heat exchanger and is not a good thing. i have seen some goodmans where the wiring for the safety sensors is melted from the flame rolling out due to a crack in the heat exchanger. it this is the case, you need to replace the heat exchanger or consider getting a new furnace. the safety wiring on most goodmans is usually purple. trace all the purlple wiring and see if some of it is melted or if any of the push button switches has tripped. on a high efficiency model, there will be several wires and rollout switches located along the top of the burner box above the burners.
good luck. by the way, anytime a safety has been tripped, the fan will default to the on postion as a precaution in case the furnace has got too hot. that may explain the fan running all the time.

roll out occurs if there is not enough combustion air at the burners or there is a blockage of the vent pipe. check both for problem. a blocked heat exchanger can also cause a roll out.

Hello Try looking for a tiny TAN colored (button) near the front of the burner rack.It will have a wire in & out of it.In the middle there is a small tab/button.Push that in you will hear a click. That is the rollout switch.Check the vent/exaust pipe for blockage/draft to determine the cause of the switch tripping. The switch is a SAFTEY and repeated trips means there is a problem.

Does the burner On my Goodman PBG Package unit produce a fan shaped flame? Or, Are my burnes bad? I have flame inside the protection box where teh rollout sensors are, but the unit still works.

Sounds like you may have a major issue. If the flames are not going into the heat exchanger there is a possible crack that is pushing the flames out. What you need to watch for is before the fan comes on and after. If the flames are going in and then the main blower kicks in and the flames come out there is a problem in the heat exchanger
