That is called dirt. From not using a cover on your food. any hot oils will precipitate back on the ceiling.

SOURCE: lightning inside microwave oven

You better be carefull my friend or you will start glowing in the dark!! LOL Just kidding. But I wont kid about how dangerous that metal cylinder can be with the holes in the top. Thats the magnatron. It has very high voltage going to it and you should never ever touch any wires going to it even if its unplugged as theres a capacitor in there that holds a charge for a time. f the oven is over several years old, Im sure the magnatron will cost more then a new oven, after you add labor and such. It just migfht be time to upgrade to a new microwave?? Good Luck

SOURCE: Ceiling plate cover has small hole; otherwise works fine.

Since your waveguide cover is burned, it will need to be replaced. It provides important protection for the magnetron.

It is part # PCOVPA180WRP0 (copy & paste) and you can
order it from Encompass here or you can call them toll-free at 866-779-5835.

In some cases the part is held in place with a rivet. Other times it just slides out of the slot.

l would not use it until you have it opened and inspected---there is always the possible chance of fire and no need to risk that---unplug it and do not use until it gets looked at.

How about boiling a small container of water and once it starts boiling. Just shut the unit off and let it sit and let the steam do the work for you. Might soften it enough to scrape it off.

The microwave oven is not safe to use, the fire has compromised the interior of the oven, if you run the microwave it will start to arc and eventually short out the magnetron, because the white enamel paint has been burned away. If you have holes in the ceiling there is danger of radiation leakage, for safety reasons the oven should be replaced.

No socket for bulb on left side of oven

The oven cavity lamp is hidden up on top. You have to unplug the oven and remove the single piece top/side cover to get at it. Typically, you have to take out screws on the back of the oven along the top and side edges. Sometimes there are also screws in the sides and rarely along the bottom edge. Once you get these screws out, pull the cover back about 1/2" and lift it away. Look for a standard appliance light bulb right over the holes in the oven cavity ceiling or wall where the light normally shines in.

Whirlpool MH2175XS microwave/hood combo with oil leak, etc.

This is a very wierd problem that we have been dealing with for years, and never seem to get a correct answer. Have actually seen green slime like oil inside the units before. From what we have heard, is that this oily substance is actually coming out of the blower fan assembly inside the unit. Its like bearing oil from the center support shaft. Will go away over time, but the fan may or may not go bad. Good luck with the mystery oil.

Plastic melted inside oven, dripping from ceiling Kenmore 721

The round peice in top of unit is a cover for the stirrer wich moves waves around for even cooking. The reason for it melting is almost certainly there is not enough paint in cavity and waves are shorting out to metal.CALL the manufacturer and depending on age of unit they may replace it free

Burnt ceiling

Well microwave probably was too close to the ceiling and it wasn't getting enough air through and it got hot then bam you have a hole in your ceiling... if your microwave is completely ruined then don't bother with it just get a new one but if it works try moving it farther away from the ceiling.. good luck =]]
