Check the wheels that the tub is resting on for poor lubrication. Try to lift up the tub with something you can pry with. Just enough to take the weight off the wheel, one at a time and then turn by hand the wheel and see if it/they are dragging or jammed.

If you find one or more wheels jammed or dragging, then replace it/them and you should be good to go.

While you have your dryer all twisted and partially dismantled, take a few moments and clean out the LINT DUCT all the way from the TUB to ALL THE WAY outside the home. Damp lint does not move very well and if it has been collecting for months or years you could be clogging your dryer drum wheels, and/or the belt that turns the drum and setting yourself up for a nasty fire in your dryer, that could easily burn down your home. You may have to reroute your hose if you find ANY PLACE that the hose goes up hill or has a bunch of turns in it. Make sure the Duct is level, or slightly slopped down, and keep your turns to the very minimum. Changin direction of a Lint Duct might look cool, but every turn will cut your air flow by 40 percent. Does not take long for the lint to build up, and spark a fire and then it will get really unfriendly around your dryer.

kindly,

Jim

Jim, I finally was able to check the wheels and they are fine. Cleaned all the lint out. I disconnected the belt & rotated the shaft. There is a squeak when I rotate it. It's at the same point in the rotation. When I start it with no belt on, it makes a noise, as if laboring, on start up. Then it sounds fine. It still has difficulty rotating the drum.

It sounds like something is not routing true to the designed path of the belt. When you had the wheels free to check rotation, did they appear to spin in a straight path and/or was there a slight wobble to them, either wheel. Also, when you had the belt path released, did you notice how consistently the idler wheel was tracking, was it free, no wobble. I know this is taking longer than you want,

unfortunately having you check this and then the next step are time consuming when using a any sort of text trouble shooting process. It does appear to be in the containment path of the the belt path. Check at points where the drum comes in contact with anything, belt, rollers, idler, and motor and felt track the tub also rests on. Start eliminating points of contact. When you see what is dragging on the tub,

SOURCE: gas dryer will not stay warm for long

Hi, You will need to replace the coils on top of the gas valve.
There is a small plastic cap that you can remove in the lower front panel. Start the dryer and see if the ignitor glows and shuts off before the gas ignites. If this is the case, the coils need replaced. This is a very common issue with the gas dryer.
Here is how to change the coils:
UNPLUG the dryer. This model you need to remove the two screws under the lint screen. Now use a flat blade screw drive and insert it in the gap between the top and the front panel and pry the top up. Now locate and remove the screws on the inside of the front panel in upper corners. The front should lift off. You will see the two black coils on the gas valve. When you remove the three wire coil, make sure the sleeve inside it gets put back on the post the coils slides onto.
If I can assist you further, please let me know.

Thanks
Vic

SOURCE: whirlpool dryer WED5530SQ0, heats but does not run

So,. basically your drum doesnt turn. SO your getting heat still even though the drum isnt turning. Is this right? Sounds strange??? Do you hear any humming noise when you push the start button? I need to know a little more about the problem because im kinda confused as how you decribed the problem. Iv never seen a dryer heat but the drum not spinning. especially your model dryer. Its electric heat right? because if the drum doesnt spin, maybe your motor is bad. and if your motor is bad, then your heating element wont heat up because the centrifical switch in the motor is not switching to complete the circuit to the heating element. So this is why im confused when you said" Dryer heats when knob turned but when "push button" pressed, drum doesnt run." Because your belt wraps around the motor pully and the motor is what makes the drum turn. Like i said, i never seen this model dryer heat with out the motor operating. So if you can give me some more info, ill do my best to help you out....Thanks!!!!

Could just be a matter of wires coming loose. The movement and vibration of the spinning could have shaken wires loose. look for any wires not connected to anything.

Only thing that fixes itself after cooling is the main motor. Either motor is failing, or something is binding preventing tub from turning, or making tub hard to turn. Can have hair binding support rollers. Will need to turn tub by hand , counter clockwise to determine if it's hard to turn, if so remove tub and inspect rollers, if they don't turn freely replace rollers.

My whirlpool dryer (model LER7646DQO) has been making noises when starting up for about a month. The last load I did I removed dry clothes and put a couple of damp items back in, pushed the start button,...

this could be one of two things the heating element that heats the air has broken or the noise you heard was the bushes on the motor going and then they burnt out.

either the heater elements need replacement or most likely the motor needs new bushes or replacing all toghether.

this will need a qualifed engineer to resolve. considering the age of the machine if it is many years old it might be cheaper to replace the machine for a new one. ask your engineer how much it will cost to repair before he starts the work and decide the best action.

I hope this was helpful.

Whirlpool dryer heats but the drum doesn't rotate

There is usually a large belt that goes around the drum to turn it ...it is either fallen off the motor pulley , broke .....or the motor may be gone in it ....not sure if there are any fuses for the motor on your dryer .
If you can tip the dryer over the bottom is usually open and you can see the motor and belt from there

Dryer does not tumble, but heats up

Dryers have a drive belt that turns the clothes drum. If the belt breaks, the drum stops rotating. Then you need to replace the belt, and often the idler pulley, because the pulley tends to wear out at the same time.

Click here for a belt installation diagram.

Motor If the dryer motor only hums when you press the Start button, the motor may be burned out. Here's how to test the dryer motor:

  • Remove the belt.

  • Check for obstructions in the blower fan housing.

  • Manually rotate the shaft of the motor.

If the motor is very stiff, or impossible to rotate manually, and the blower fan housing is clear, you need to replace the motor.

If the motor rotates freely, run the motor momentarily with the belt removed and the blower in place. If the motor runs fine with the belt removed, there may be a problem with the idler pulley or the clothes drum. Try to rotate the drum by hand. If it is very difficult to move, correct any problem with the rollers or pulley, and then reassemble the dryer and try it again.

If the motor hums but doesn't rotate on its own even with the belt removed--yet you can turn it freely by hand--you usually need to replace the motor or the motor start capacitor.

Door switch Your dryer can't operate at all if the door switch is defective. It's inside the dryer main housing near the door frame. Sometimes you need to raise or open the top or front of the dryer to reach the switch. If it's defective, you need to replace it.

if this helps please vote me a fix ya
