Question about Refrigerators

Open Question

Samsung rf217 Refrigerator section is not cooling but freezer is cold. Cannot fell air circulation from fan. Samsung support thought it might be evaporator heater, though after defrosting, still no air. Assuming it may be a bad fan motor which I assume is not covered under the 5 yr. closed system warranty. Is there someway of checking which might be the problem? Can the fan motor only be replaced as I see the whole panel as a replacement part. Cannot tell of the numerous fan motor on parts sites might be the correct replacement.

I have model number PDE18LZRBB. Freezer works fine; refrigerator section will not cool properly.

Your problem is usually caused by poor air circulation. The only way the refrig section gets cold is from the fan in the freezer blowing cold air into the refrig section. The fan should be behind the back wall of the freezer and should be running at the same time the complete refrigerator is running. No fan run---no cold in the fresh food section.

Why samsung Refrigerator Freezer is cold but Refrigerator is warm -Model srs622dss

check the cold control thermostat with a meter for both OHMS and volts ( VOLTS is a live test with fridge plugged in so be careful) It must show 110 volts. An open or thermostat that reads infinity will not allow the proper cooling and defrosting cycles to operate and may in fact stop anything from happening as if there is no power to the unit?

ALSO CHECK THE AIR FLOW VENT SYSTEM At times it can get stuck to far closed or open. Some units feature a digital electric adjusting vent system while others are manually set. Check for any ice build up or other obstruction in the vent damper, see if u can manually open or close it. Some times when u have the settings set to the highest it closes off one area while allowing to much cold air flow to the other area!
Check ur cold control thermostat, ur thermistors in both fridge and freezer ( they should be checked for both ohms and for amount of current being put out as per ur model ), ur air flow vent from freezer to fridge.( to make sure it opens and closes without any restrictions) On thermistors check for A close circuit and amount of ohms not just an Ohm reading. As per ur model. Most should atleast show 1200 ohms. Also Check door seals for leakage.
Evaporator coils
Poor cooling is often the result of a heavy frost build-up on the evaporator coils. You can't see these coils without removing a panel on the inside of your freezer. A sure sign that there is a build-up is the presence of any frost or ice build-up on the inside walls, floor, or ceiling of the freezer. Such a frost build-up usually indicates a problem in the self-defrosting system or damaged door gaskets.
If one of the components in the self-defrosting system fails, the refrigerator continues to try to cool. Eventually, though, so much frost builds up on the evaporator coils that the circulating fan can't draw air over the coils. There may still be a small amount of cooling because the coils are icy, but with no air flow over the coils, cooling in the refrigerator compartment is quite limited.

FAN check to see if it is operating or restricted A fan that is not blowing or restricted will not circulate the cold air properly.

Often, the first thing that folks do when their refrigerator starts to feel warm is turn both controls on the coldest settings. This is exactly the WRONG thing to do.Turning the cold control to the coldest settingwillkeep the compressor running longer and make lots of cold air.

But turning the air door to the coldest settingclosesthe airway to the food section. Lots of cold air is made, but most of it stays in the freezer section, and the food section actually getswarmer.

How do you access the fans(s)that transfer cold air from the freezer coil to the fridge? Samsung RS267TDBP

The cold is transferred by the gas coils . there is a fan to cool the hot gas at the compressor . some freezers have a fan to circulate the cold air in the freezer , they don't transfer the cold from the compressor.

Why ice is forming in some items kept inside at the back of the refrigerator including the vegetable tray.

Ice at the back of refrigerator section is usually due to a fan there that has become stuck, little fan like 2 1/2" or so, the fan circulates cold from the freezer into the refrigerator. If that cold air is not moved through than it will form ice there from moisture in the air of the refrigerator section. I have had that problem a couple times, could be from something pushed against back wall and got n the way of fan blades causing fan to stop.

FRIDGE SIDE WILL NOT COOL

Hi

This is usually caused by a clogged defrost drain. Many times vents between fridge and freezer sections are clogged with ice. Unplug the unit for 24 hours then plugin, and everything should work out. Also a faulty thermostat and Clogged/dirty evaporator coils (underneath in newer models, on back in older models) are the most probable reasons. Also All of the cooling in refrigerators is normally done in the freezer compartment. A fan circulates cold air from the freezer into the refrigerator compartment to cool it. Most likely this fan has quit working.

I have a Frigidaire top freezer refrigerator which stopped cooling the lower section while the top section stays frozen. I can hear it run through it's cycle but no freezer fan comes on. What would cause...

the evaporator fan is not spinning. the coil is getting too cold because the fan is not circulating the air across it. defrost it and see if the fan works. If not, they are fairly inexpensive and easy to replace. There is an access cover on the back wall of the freezer. remove it, and the fan is right behind it.

Refrigerated does not cool, freezer works

Most units have the cooling coils in the freezer section, then some vents and a fan circulates cold air into the refrigerator section.

If the vents are blocked by food items or ice, then the fridge will be too warm. Also, if the air circulation fan has failed, then cold air from the freezer will not get to the refrigerator.

On a self-defrosting refrigerator, this can be a sign that the defrost timer, defrost heater, or related part has failed. If the cooling coils are packed with ice, then airflow to the refrigerator does not occur.

Typically there is a electromechanical timer that you can see if you take off the lower front panel...this timer switch can be set so the defrost cycle happens when you want (like late at night).

You can also manually turn the switch to start the defrost cycle. Normally you hear the sound of water running and the scorch-hiss sound of an electric heater element touching water/ice when the defrost is taking place. The refrigerator compressor and cooling fan will typically be off during defrost as well.
