SOURCE: I have motherboard Compaq #277498-001 and can't find power sw

Not sure of your particular MB, but most always the switch is a pair of pins in an array where the front panel LEDs and reset and power switch are.
This array of pins is almost always at the lower right hand side of MB. Assume the components side is facing you and the expansion slots are at your left hand, (where you add extra cards like video etc). then look at the lower right side or bottom edge, mostly right at the edge of the board. Should be an a double row of pins, at least 8 maybe up to 12. Look real close next to these and you may see print indicating which pair do what. PS = power switch. RS = reset, HD = Hard drive LED PLED = power led light.Spk internal beep speaker etc. (Note LEDs require correct polarity to work) Sometimes no print there.. Then you need the manual to decipher pin pairs. Or experiment. All you need to do is make the connection momentarily (like push button) with a small screw driver tip to start it, while looking for correct pins.
If no power on check your power supply connections on the MB. Or suspect either MB or Power supply issue.

Krups FND1 lid pressure release spring and seat came apart. How do I reassemble the safety release?

The lid is broken, you need a new lid. I have checked online and it is available, part number is MS 0927155. There will be small plastic pieces in the boiler, fill it up and tip it upside down & shake it about.

Sounds like you have a broken lid switch, it is located under the top possibly just off the side you lid will have a protruding plastic under the lid which will fit into a slot that depresses the lid switch.

The trunk won't open w/ remote or elct. sw. only

Hello. Chances are that the Unlocking mechanism in the trunk is either out of alignment or broken. Take a close look at it. It is where the trunk lid actually latches and locks. See if it is loose, or bent, or broken.

Estate Washer will not drain (model: SM 8280867) appears to have a damaged sensor on the lid, need info on how to access this piece, also need info on how to access the pump if this is not the problem

If this is an Estate top loader, check your lid switch. Since the pump is mechanically driven, it usually is not the problem unless it is clogged. The washer will still run, though, if this were the case. This problem is commonly attributed to a loose or broken lid switch.

If your washer fills and doesn't do anything, or stops right after the wash cycle and then does not advance to the rinse cycle or drain, the problem is commonly caused by a lid switch malfunction. The lid switch is usually mounted under the washer top casing, on the right hand side on most top load models. It is activated by a plastic piece on the lid (called a "Lid Strike") through a small hole on the rim of the wash tub opening. In many cases the lid strike breaks off the lid, or the lid switch becomes loose and no longer makes contact. Inspect the lid to make sure the lid strike is still intact, and then inspect the mounting screws (adjacent to the small opening on the wash tub rim) and make sure they are snug. If you determine the switch to be defective, the following link explains how to replace one:

If the switch requires replacement, a new one can be purchased on line at,,, Just use your model number as your search criteria. All these sites offer competitive pricing, so shop all them for the best price.

NOTE: Some washer models have the lid switch located near either the left or right hinge of the lid. This type of switch is activated by a rod on the hinge pin. If not functioning, it can often be adjusted by bending the hinge rod until it engages the switch.

You can access the drain pump by removing the washer case. The pump is located directly in the front of the washer under the wash tub. It has two hoses attached. All you have to do is remove one of the drain hoses to drain any water. However, before you do that try using a wet dry shop vac on the drain hose by pulling it from the standpipe at the wall and pulling a vacuum on it. This will minimize the need to mop up any water. These wash tubs have a capacity of about 35 gallons. That's a lot of water to bail or try to mop up. If the water drains with a vacuum on the line, the pump probably isn't clogged. NOTE: If the lid switch is defective, you do not have to drain the tub to install a new one. The water will drain once the switch is repaired.

If you have any questions about this repair, or if you need additional assistance, please let me know. I hope this helps you.

PS Are you sure you have the model number correct? I tried doing a search on that number and it doesn't cross to anything. I think you may have posted the Serial Number. Please verify and post back with a correct Model Number if this is the case. I would like to be able to confirm how your washer is configured.

Reset sw connection in j37

Not an exact solution for you. It is a solution. I wish you to know that the Reset switch, (Reset button) has been taken out of computers.

Because if you need to reset it, (Restart), you press the CTRL key, ALT key, and the Delete key at the SAME time. This brings up Task Manager, where you can go to the top headings, and click on Restart.

If this is not a feasible solution for you, I ask that you come back, and tell me what Compaq computer model name, and model number, this motherboard came out of.

The symptoms you describe are typical of a broken lid switch. The lid switch is located under the washer top on the right hand side. It is activated through a slot by a small plastic piece on the lid called a "lid strike". Make sure the lid strike is still installed and not broken. Make sure the lid switch itself is not loose, as well. There are two mounting screws along the washer tub opening that hold it in place. If the screws become loose the switch will not make contact with the lid strike when the lid is closed. If you need to replace the switch or lid strike, the parts are available at Just type in your model number and look under the "Washer Top and Lid" heading on the next page. The lid switch is listed as item number 22 (part #3355806) and the lid strike is listed as item number 16 (part #358684). Both parts combined will cost you about $30. If you have further questions and/or require additional assistance, please let me know. I hope this helps you.

Lid switch location??????????

I had a similar problem with my HP/Compac nc4200. Every time I had had the lid closed, the display would be black for a couple of hours, and then work again. I realized that the machine belived that the lid was still closed, and started looking for the lid-switch but I could not find it! The answer is that there is no mechanical switch! In the lid by the microphone (3 cm from the left hinge) is a small magnet hidden and in the base unit by the switches is a magnetic sensor (probably a hall-switch). Over time the the metal next to the sensor has been magnetized by the magnet enough to activate the swith even when the lid is open. The solution was simply to take a magnet and sweep it over the area a copule of times, and suddenly the screen came back to life! I am not sure for how long this fix works, but now I know how to fix it again.
