Re: doesn't cool

Hi, Yes, If the evaporator was not frozen over then I agree with you. The unit has lost its refrigerant charge. The only thing you can do is to have a licensed refrigeration man find the leak, repair it and recharge it or replace the refrigerator. If the evaporator is frozen over the defrost timer would be the problem. In this case, manually defrost it and it will be good for a few days until you get it replaced. kstfas

If it's only a year old then the compressor/sealed system is under warranty. You should have a 5 year warranty. Go to and request service.

I have a GE side by side Fridg.that is approx 7-8yrs old.The freezer side is working fine but the fridg. side is not cooling. staying at about 50 degrees just barely cool.. This seemed to happened...

Setting the cooling setting up all the way will not help at all.Make sure your freezer and refrigerator controls are about the same setting. Temp. settings for refrigerator should be between at medium.. Freezer about 0 to -10.If it is a simple fix this will help.

Our Kenmore is a side by side with ice maker. It's about 6 years old. The ice maker quit making ice about a year ago. We didn't get it fixed. Now our refridgerator section won't cool. The freezer works...

Find the vent in the refrig that gets the air blown in from the freezer. When the unit is running you should feel air coming out of it. If not then you have a problem with the damper door. you can manually open the damper door but you might have to adjust it so it does'nt send in too much freezer air and freeze stuff.

Compressor making a loud noise, freezer cannot cool

It sounds to me like the internal relief valve is lifting due to discharge pressure being to high such as it a system that is over charged with refrigerant. Have the system tested for pressures on high and low sides. If someone has serviced this unit recently there may be to much of a charge in the system. Also check the name place for the proper refrigerant and charge .
