12 volt cigarette lighter socket

the lighter socket will be straight 12 volts and the GPS may require less (5.5 volts) and the different size is to prevent the over voltage and damaging the GPS unit. There may be an adaptor that will do the job and it may have a built- in transformer for the purpose.

Power into unit ok power comming out of unit is very dim.

If you have a volt meter, check the voltage, I believe it is supposed to be 12 volts.
Are your bulbs the proper voltage rating, that is 12 volts.
Do you have enough bulbs connected to the transformer, connected load should be close to 121 watts when you add up all your bulb wattages.
Don't confuse volts with watts. The transformer reduces voltage to 12 volts, but the wattage of the transformer is 121 watts. Each bulb must be 12 volts but wattage (brightness) can vary depending on the fixture from maybe 7 watts to over 50 watts.

Garmin gps 12 loss of data

I had the same thing happen. The problem is that the internal lithium battery is shot. Solution: phone Garmin at 1-800-800-1020 x 2,2,1. You send the receiver in along with a $42.41 check. They will probably replace the unit. They will explain exact procedures when you call.
Hope this helps.

Is rhe autupower cable all you need to operate the gps?

Hello, yes an external antenna is no longer needed with recent improvement to portable GPS systems.

You will need to place the GPS where it has a relatively unobstructed view of the sky.

I use a vent mount which are available for about $12. It clips into the vent louvers and positions the unit directly to the right of my steering wheel.

Please note it may take as much as 5 minutes for the GPS to obtain its initial position so be patient.

Also it may be a good idea to charge your unit, if it did not come with a 110v plug in transformer you can use a USB cable off your computer directly into the USB jack that provides power from your cigarette lighter.

Magellan often releases new firmware for their models so make sure you check their website, register your unit and download any updates that are available.

Hope that helps

GPS hookup on a snowmobile.

Take the insides out of an old wall-wart, those black things that hang from outlets. They take the 12 volts AC from the transformer and pass it through diodes and filter it with a capacitor. And there you have a feed wire too.
