I live in the country and my water softener back flushes into the ditch via the sump pump and that doesn't seem to hurt anything-the water does have salt in it but it must not be enough to hurt anything-cheers Denny

Bypassing softener when watering the lawn. Uses too much salt..can we turn off the water softener when we are watering the lawn and how do we do this.

leave the setting on the water softener alone as it will become a tiresome exercise
place a "t" joiner in the water line before the softener with a tap on the outlet side to the softener and a tap on the outlet side to the lawn hose and fix your lawn hose to that
That way when you want to water the lawn adjust the taps so that the water softener is cut off and the hose is turned on
or when using the softener the tap is turned on and the hose is turned off
use ball valves ( 90 degree action)with a handle and the direction of the handle will determine the direction of water flow

Fabric softener is still in dispenser after wash

Check for clogged water nozzles in the dispenser. Also, it's advisable to check for a gummed up softener dispenser--softener has a nasty habit of drying out and leaving a thick waxy paste on everything. Check the dispenser where you put in the softener--I recommend CUTTING THE SOFTENER 50/50 WITH HOT WATER to keep it very fluid. Softener causes lint! Be a scrooge when it comes to adding softener--enough to make the clothes smell nice and be soft--BUT THAT'S IT!! On rare occasions, one of the electric inlet water valves might be malfunctioning and not letting water flow to the softener dispenser.
NOTE TO EVERYONE!!!==>ON ALL *HE* WASHERS, NO MORE THAN 2 TABLESPOONS OF LIQUID DETERGENT IN ANY LOAD, IT'S PLENTY!! You're only using 1/3 of the water the old style washers used to use. As for softener, use only enough to get the job done--and always cut it with hot water, especially in the winter.

Can u use water softner pellets direct in to water

Water softener salt is used to regenerate a water softener after the softener has been in operation for a few days removing hardness from the water. If you were to only add the salt to your water you would still have hard water but now it would become salty. Go to youtube and look up How does a water softener work? If you want to buy one go to wqa.org and find a Certified Water Specialist close to you. He or she will be one of the only 5% of water treatment people who have received formal training in how to fix your water. There is a lot that can be done to improve your water.

My aqua 2000 water softener regenerates every night and uses a lot of water can I use it to water my lawn

I would not as it will have a high sodium content and will probably kill your lawn or plants. Also if you have a well or bore hole (personally or close by )you will contaminate your water and poison yourself.

I have a water softner and when it is in service i lose pressure in my house. when it is not in service the water pressure is fine. what could be the problem and how can i fix this problem????

To try and answer your question I will assume firstly that 'in service' means in normal operating mode - not in re-generation.

All water softeners have a limited throughput of water. In other words the volume of water that can pass through the system and be softened in the process is limited by the size of the vessel. If water passes through at too fast a rate then there would not be sufficient time for the water to undergo the ion exchange process that softens the water. Therefore the softener constricts the flow to a level which provides satisfactory operation.

If your plumbing system is taking water directly through the softener then the pressure will be limited by the maximum throughput of the softener. The only way to solve this is to install a higher capacity softener or, as is common in the UK, to feed a cold water storage tank from the softener so that pressure is not affected.

If you mean that 'in service' is when the device is re-generating, then the problem is a different one. When the device re-generates, it switches the water flow to bypass the softener within the unit. Therefore the pressure should not be affected unless the bypass is partially constricted. This bypass valve is an integral part of the softener valve assembly, so this would have to be checked by a competent service engineer.

If you can provide additional information by posting a comment I will do my best to help further. If you do so please identify the brand and model of your softener and try to describe how it is plumbed in to your supply.

GE models in the Medle East (problem with heater and salt)

Cold is probably more efficient unless you have solar heating or your how water cylinder is right next to the washer with minimum amount of piping otherwise by the time the hot water reaches the machine it will have enough in it anyway :p I dont have much experience with water hardness issues as water in my region is quite soft but you can get tablets containing? softener as well as detergent... yes?

Fabric softener dispenser fills up with clear water after washing cycle is complete. I do not use fabric softener .

Purchase some fabric softener and place it in its normal location at the beginning of the cycle. At the end of the cycle check to see if fabric softener has been dispensed and whether there is water in the cup.

If the fabric softener is gone, but there is water in the fabric softener cup, then your problem may be with the water valve assembly. The water valve assembly (as one complete unit) has a separate solenoid for hot and cold water temperatures, bleach and fabric softener. The fabric softener solenoid on the water valve assembly could be defective (allowing water to fill the fabric softener cup).

Contact an appliance service company.

My water softener seems to be working, but my water feels nasty, like it's not working

If you have a three valve bypass the center "bypass" may be open and letting hard water past softener.
