I would start by replacing the water control valve-this is right where the water supply connect to the washer-when you switched the hoses to wash darks then you got cold water-this tells me one side of that valve is stuck-they do go bad-cheers Denny

Won't let me pick water temperature, why?

Hello. Check the screen inside the cold water hose connection at the back of the washer. Are you on a well or do you have city water? People on wells should check the inlet screens at least 3 times per year for sediment blockage. BE VERY CAREFUL NOT TO TEAR THE METAL SCREENS OR CRACK THE PLASTIC ONES IF YOURS IS CLOGGED AND YOU HAVE TO REMOVE IT. **NEVER, NEVER RUN YOUR WASHER WITHOUT THOSE SCREENS IN THE INLET WATER VALVES**--YOU WILL CAUSE VALVE FAILURE DUE TO CONTAMINANTS JAMMING THE DELICATE MECHANISM) Normally, only the cold water supply side is affected. On the hot side, the sediment falls into the water heater. The cold side is directly connected.

CAn I use a Zanussi S218t washer with cold inlet only?

You could cap off the hot side on the washer, but will this old washer (20+ years according to the model number) wash efficiently even with the new "biological detergents" (available in the UK, I have never seen it in the US) Apparently in some countries it's common to sell a unit that has an internal heater (not this old girl though) so standard washing detergents will work. You might look for one of these "cold fill only" units or the biological detergent that works at 40 degrees (I'm assuming that is metric, not standard measure, as it would make no sense to have to chill water to that temperature just to have soap work! I don't know why they insist on using that horrible metric stuff everywhere except the US.

My Whirlpool Duet Washer #GHW900LW1 does not pull the hot water.

Sorry this answer is about 1 month late, but in case you're still having the issue, it is likely due to 1 of 2 possibilities (or combination of both).
Most likely, the small inlet screen, located on the back, (where the hot water hose enters the machine) is clogged. This is a common problem that restricts the flow of hot water into the machine.
To check or clean this, just unscrew the hot water hose where it enters the washer. It sits just inside that fitting.

The other possibility is a bad or clogged inlet valve. The inlet valve controls the flow of hot and cold water into the machine. It is opened and closed via an electric solenoid (part of the intake valve unit).
The inlet valve is the same unit that houses the screen I previously mentioned, and is just inside the back panel of the washer, where the two inlet hoses thread onto.

Kenmore washer water not filling

there is a inline mesh filter at the tap end of the hose but it is more that likely that the tap washer need replacing
it is possible that the inlet solenoid valve is not operating properly
if you have separate hot and cold water hoses and taps then either tap should produce a full flow when set if no taps get a full slow when selected , indicates a problem power board

The inlet valve on the cold water inlet is clogged, dirty or jammed. You need to remove the inlet valve and clean the valve and filter. use back flushing with brushing to clean the filter.
the hum you hear is of the coil working but is not opening to allow water into the system.
Also you can switch the inlet valve from the hot line if needed .
check this link for removing the inlet valve:

Washer will not fill with cold water. Warm and hot cycles work well. When you start the cold wash it fill for a few seconds and then it stops.

Check your cold water inlet for water flow. The filter screen might be clogged with debris. If there is no debris, you might need a new water inlet valve. It relatively inexpensive and easy to change. You can find them at any appliance supply outlet.

check the inlet screens inside the water mixing/inlet valve on your machine, they may be extremely clogged causing your troubles.
if they are not clogged up you need to verify whether line voltage is making it to the inlet valve allowing it to open, if present the valve is bad.
if not determine if your temperature control switch is bad, but usually its a water valve or screen..
hope this helps,
best of luck,

Why is there only hot water going in the washing machine?

the cold water valve is stuck shut inside washer.
Servicing Water Inlet ValvesIf the washer won't fill or fills very slowly, if it overfills, or if the water is the wrong temperature, the water inlet valves could be faulty. These components are easy to locate and very easy to replace, at little cost. When you suspect an inlet valve is faulty, first check to make sure the water faucets are fully turned on and properly connected to the hot and cold inlets of the valves. Then check the screens in the valves; if they're clogged, clean or replace them. If water doesn't enter the tub, set the temperature control to the HOT setting. If there is no water, set the control to the WARM setting. If all that comes out is cold water, the hot-water inlet valve is faulty. Reverse the procedure to test the cold-water valve, setting the control first on COLD and then on WARM. If the tub overfills, unplug the washer. If water still flows into the tub, the valve is stuck open. In any of these cases, the valves should probably be replaced. To check the valve assembly:

how-to-repair-a-washing-machine-2.jpg

Step 1: Remove the back service panel and disconnect the hot-water and cold-water hoses to the valves.

Step 2: Remove the hoses connected to the valves inside the cabinet. Also disconnect the wires from the terminals. Back out the screws holding the valves to the machine. The inlet valves have solenoids (a coil of wire that carries a current) inside the housing. These can be tested, but chances are the valves are simply worn out.

Step 3: Tap the solenoids with a screwdriver handle. If this doesn't work, replace the entire inlet valve assembly. Repairs usually cost more than a new part. Make sure the replacement valve assembly is exactly the same type as the old one. Install it in reverse order of the way you disconnected the old one.

An F20 or FH error code indicates a water supply problem. Here are some common issues:
  • Both hot and cold water must be connected and turned on
  • Water inlet hoses kinked
  • Water inlet valve screen clogged
  • Water pressure less than 10 psi
  • Not using HE High Efficiency detergent
  • Flood-preventing devices that shut off the water to the washer

Are both the hot and cold water faucets turned on? Turn on the water. Check the household faucets to see if the hot and cold water faucets are turned on. Make sure to open both faucets completely for proper fill.
NOTE: Both hot and cold water must be connected to the washer supply and turned on. The washer will not properly operate with only one incoming source of water. The water valve inside the machine needs to have the "pressure" from both attached hoses in order for the washer to complete the cycle.
If a cold water wash is selected, the washer is designed to add hot water to keep the temperature optimal for cold wash performance (75°F +/-10°).If you want to save energy by not connecting to the hot water line (or only have access to a cold water line if connected in a garage, etc.), purchase a "Y-connector" and an extra inlet hose to connect the hoses to both sides of the water valve.
NOTE: If you choose to connect only to cold water, wash performance may be affected.
Are the water inlet hoses kinked? Straighten the water inlet hoses.
Are the water inlet valve screens on the washer clogged? Turn off the water and remove inlet hoses from the inlet valves in the back of the washer. Inside the inlet valves are screens. Remove any accumulated film or particles from the screens. Reinstall hoses, turn on water, and check for leaks. See the Installation Instructions for details.
Is the water pressure less than 10 psi? If the water pressure is too low, the washer may not properly operate. To find out your exact pounds-per-square-inch (psi) value, contact your local water utility company.
Are you using HE High Efficiency detergent? Use only HE High Efficiency detergent. Using non-HE detergent, or more than the manufacturer's recommended amount of detergent, can cause excessive suds. The excess suds can prevent the washer from detecting the incoming water.
Concentrated detergents labeled 2x and higher will require a small amount of detergent based on load size. Always follow the manufacturer's recommendations.
Are you using flood-preventing devices that can shut off the water to the washer?
These hoses have a valve inside that will close if the water pressure is higher than two gallons per minute; this will shut off the water to the washer. If one of these hoses becomes loose, the water flow through the hose will increase and close the valve inside the hose, which will shut off water to the washer to prevent a possible leak or flood. If the hose is not loose, try taking the hoses back to the store for a replacement set.

Removing the Error To remove the error display, press Pause/Cancel twice.
If Pause/Cancel does not work:
Unplug the washer or disconnect the power for one minute.
Plug in the washer or reconnect the power.
Re-select the cycle and press Start.
NOTES:
On some washers, when the washer is started for the first time after this error code, it will begin to drain. You will not be able to pause or cancel the cycle for about 8 minutes while it drains. This is normal.
If the error remains on the display, and all of the other conditions above have been checked, call for service.
