SOURCE: Distorted sound

Are you a technician capable of internal repair? This seems like a case of either positive or negative supply rail to right channel blown. Probably an open fuse or open series supply line resistor.
Internal view of amp here;
The round orange doughnut shaped device at the left is the unit's toroidal transformer. To the right of it are these 2 legged upright, white rectangular ceramic resistors. They are typically low value with a power of approximately 5 watts. A quick cold test with an ohm meter might reveal one of them to be open.
Switch off and unplug unit before opening. Be wary of charge retained in the big fat electrolytic capacitors in the centre.
I do not suspect a case of blown output transistors since the relay does not go into protect and sound is audible but distortyed in one channel.
Safe !

You can't wire an equalizer to this amp unless you only want to equalize one source, because it doesn't have a tape monitor function.

I AM TRYINGTO CONNECT MY SONY AMP, MODEL # ta-n731 to my sony model# ta-e731

Looks like you need some rca cables to connect the outputs from the e731 to the inputs of the n731. There is also a small 4-pin control cable that connects the units. It probably tells the amp when the pre-amp is on. You may be able to do that manually if you can't find the cable. Or you may be able to make your own cable if you can identify the connectors.

Wires connect stereo

Assuming that your TV has a headphone socket, the easiest way is to connect a lead from the headphone socket on your TV to a spare line (or auxiliary) input on the Sony amp. You will need a 3.5mm stereo plug to twin RCA plug cable, long enough to reach both pieces of equipment. Most electrical stores should have a suitable cable available at modest cost :o)

Trying to set up just the amp & tapedeck of the Sony TA-AX335 integrated stereo system, but can't get the ribbon power cord to work.

Does the deck light-up at all, or is it completely dead? I've found that in aging tape decks, the belts will deteriorate, and change into tar. I've repaired several of the TA series Sony systems, and that's usually the case. If the deck is just 'dead,' I would recommend retrofitting standard RCA jacks on the back of the amplifier. The pins on the ribbon cable are clearly marked on the PC board inside the amp. Then, you could use any deck you want, or even a CD recorder. Hope this helps. :)

it must be due to a bad connection if the cables are fine it may be the connectors or where they solder on to the amp or radio board if the amp with out the radio cables attached still will only select tuner its the amp fault, even worse i could be a faulty integrated circuit eg faulty micro chip good luck with finding a replacement

Tuning my toshiba tv to hdmi

You don't need to tune it to HDMI. Connect the HDMI cable to the rear HDMI socket & then select the HDMI source from the remote control, this will switch the TV to this input & show whatever the picture is from that source ie DVD/Cable etc.

Hi Jimbob. Sounds like you have dirty/dry controls/switches. The contact lubricant dries out on them producing intermittent and scratchiness when you operate them. Clean any offending controls or signal switches with CRC2-26 by squirting(to flood then internals) each control/switch. you will have to do this from the inside of the amp. You may also have a dirty speaker protection relay, sound may return to a dead channel when you turn the vol up points to that. Good Luck. If you need more info feel free to get back to me here. Happy to talk you through more if you cant sort it out.

Sony TA-AX301 Amp looses left speakers

many times this problem is the result of dust and or dirt that has collected in your control, balance etc....the solution is usually to take the amp apart to get to the pots and clean them out with tuners cleaner or some such product...a quick fix would be to rapidly move the knobs side to side or press the buttons or toggle the switches as fast as you can in hopes of clearing some of the particles from the affected area...
