I have an HP M1522nf printer/fax/scanner all in one. I had the software (HP Toolbox) installed on my computer for about a year. Then, I started having driver issues and my computer would shut down and restart itself. I uninstalled the HP printer software and my computer worked fine. I tried to re-install and my computer continued to restart itself after a min or two. I tried to update the drivers, I think they took but its hard to tell the system shuts down before it has a chance to take. I think it may just be a driver problem, but can't find a fix for it. Any ideas?
This is not a printer problem, but a PC problem.
I had, what sounds like the same problem on my PC a couple of years ago, It turned out to be one of my memory ram cards was bad.
There is a "windows diagnostic memory" test that you can download and put onto a cd and boot to DOS to test the memory. Obviously, you'll need to download and burn the CD on a working PC, and then run the progra on your own PC.
You have to set your pc to "boot from cd" in the setup menu. This is usually accomplishd by holding "DELETE" when you first start the PC, and selecting "boot from CD" - set this back to defaukt after running the test.
If the memory test fails, then you need to replace your ram (or one of them) if you have multiple cards.
This is a bit of work, but you definitely have a PC problem -not a printer problem.
