If your PC shuts down while trying to access an Anti Virus Software, you have a Virus already on your computer. Download Malwarebytes it's free to use and should solve any problems. Once you've downloaded it I would suggest turning off WiFi or disconnecting from the internet I case someone is remote viewing without permission.

Testimonial: "The PC is not shutting down, its the Trend Micro Smart Surfing software. It updates, and then says it is restarting the program to install the new updates, then, as soon as it restarts, it updates again. Its like on constant update or the update is not taking hold. My entire computer works just fine accept for this program, its been a few weeks now. I have downloaded nothing, the only thing that has changed recently is all the YAHOO updates. I know this has nothing to do with it, but its when it started. I turned off the automatic updates for the Trend Micro and the computer works just fine. Something is wrong with TREND.."

Sounds like some update was pushed and will be restarting without your intervention. I would shut the computer and power up and see if it continues to update. It should prompt you to manually choose not to restart. If it cycles again without your permission, press CTRL - BREAK to stop it. Reboot into safe mode - press f8 when you reboot the machine and before it gets to the windows logo. Your BIOS Screen will appear first, then start the Safe mode fast... Press F8 or FN-F8 continuously. Once inside Safe mode... reboot normally and you should be ok. Read this as it could also help..

Usually Windows is OK about notifying you but for this last update I had 5 different people all call me VERY upset that they had lost important work because Windows Updates just hijacked their computer and started installing and then restarted WITHOUT NOTICE.

At the very least if there is a user logged in their should be a window that REQUIRES a "yes" click before an auto-restart is performed.

I have the Group Policy Set "No auto restarts when users are logged in" but I am running Windows 7 Professional and it isn't so easy with the other versions.
For those who don't have Windows 7 Pro/Ultimate to run gpedit.msc - Computer Config-Admin templates-Windows Components-Windows Update you can use the following - save in Notepad and rename to a something.reg file and double click.
Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Policies\Microsoft\Windows\WindowsUpdate\AU]
"NoAutoRebootWithLoggedOnUsers"=dword:00000001
"AutoInstallMinorUpdates"=dword:00000001

Windows 7 Updates Running TOO SLOW, or just plain "hanging up / freezing"??

Anyone out there in "Windows7ville" experiencing those DREADED slooooowww updates, or is it seeming to hang / freeze without actually downloading and installing your security updates??

I struggled with this exact same issue regarding Windows 7 Updates.. (SLOOOW download times, Win7 Update basically "hanging" at the "searching for updates" portion of the install procedure), you name it! Fortunately, I got fed-UP with these problems and "dug down deep" in researching for a "fool-proof" solution!

This issue apparently stems from the fact that Microsoft in all their "wisdom" decided to change how their update servers "hand out" their updates to computers requesting Windows 7-related updates, after Windows 8/8.1 was released.

Here's the fix(es) which worked for me:

First, we need to find out what version of Windows 7 (32 or 64 bit) we have:

Click the Start button. Right-click "Computer", and then left-click "Properties" from the resulting pop-up menu. This will bring up a new window showing what version of Windows 7 you have, what type of CPU, how much system RAM, and most importantly if it is 32 or 64-bit.

(For this solution, I'm assuming that one has the 64 bit version of Windows 7. If you have 32 bit, then at any time during this process you see a different choice to download the 32 bit version of an update, please do so. Also, you MUST have Service Pack 1 installed on Windows 7 for this guide to be successful. If you don't have it installed yet, please download the full installer and run it before continuing: https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=5842

Make SURE you restart once SP1 has finished installing!)

-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-

First, click the "start button" (Lower-left corner of your screen.. looks like the windows logo in a "bubble"). In the search blank at the bottom of the "start menu", type in "cmd". When it shows the result, right-click it, and then left-click "Run as Administrator". Keep this window open, but shrunk-down and off to the side a bit, as you'll need to run a command a couple times during this process.

1.) Type in (or copy and paste this) into the command prompt:

net stop wuauserv

Press "enter" / "return". This will completely stop the background Windows Update service, preventing it from interrupting our repairs / updates to Windows Update.

2.) Download and run (I recommend Google Chrome or FireFox browser -- steer clear of using Internet Explorer, as it's FULL of non-fixable security flaws!!):

https://support.microsoft.com/kb/3138612

This will ask you if you're sure you'd like to run this. Just keep saying "yes" or "ok".. (basically give it a positive response until it finishes). When it's done, restart your PC.

3.) Once your PC has fully restarted and you're back at your desktop screen, (you can see your wallpaper and all your "usual" desktop icons), REPEAT STEP 1... Then go back onto the web. Download and run:

https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/kb/3102810

Once again, give it "positive responses" if it asks if you're sure you want to install this update package... Restart your PC once more after it's done.

Now, If you'd like to get all the most needed and necessary security updates done and over-with in "one fell swoop", then download and install the "Windows 7 Convenience Update", which will get your PC up-to-speed and up-to-date with security fixes MUCH more quickly!!

(Again, please repeat Step 1 before continuing!)

First, we'll need to run a quick "service stack update" on the updater service. Download and Run:

https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/kb/3020369

On the service stack update page, remember to pick from the first two choices, based on if you have 64 bit or 32 bit.

Restart your PC once it's finished!

Repeat Step 1.

Now, onto the "Convenience Update"

Download and Run:

For 64 Bit:
http://download.windowsupdate.com/d/msdownload/update/software/updt/2016/05/windows6.1-kb3125574-v4-x64_2dafb1d203c8964239af3048b5dd4b1264cd93b9.msu

For 32 Bit:
http://download.windowsupdate.com/d/msdownload/update/software/updt/2016/05/windows6.1-kb3125574-v4-x86_ba1ff5537312561795cc04db0b02fbb0a74b2cbd.msu

As "always", restart your PC once the update finishes!

I hope this helped someone! Please let me know if it did, and have a truly excellent day!

NOT GOOD My Friend....you just blew the BIOS:
Never update BIOS unless the computer is not working all that well. When doing new Bios, the Precise BIOs for the computer are required. Any change can damage the instruction set and render the BIOs useless. Also...any interruption during the rewriting of a BIOs will mess of the Chip and blank out the instruction set. If you can, with the correct BIOS downloaded to a flash drive, you may restructure the BIOS if they can be flashed again.

Try to restart your computer, if that doesn't help, try to uninstall, restart then reinstall the software.
If that doesn't work, you can try installing a better anti-virus called Comodo. It's rated #1 in 2011.
Good luck!

Sir i have a problem with laptop,its effected from a.exe virus.how do i remove it,please help.i am usin gxp {profesional}

You will have to try a bunch of different software to get rid of this. Let's start you off from the top.

ESET NOD32 Antivirus.

Malwarebytes.

Ad-Aware.

Spybot Search & Destroy. (When installing Spybot, make sure to uncheck TeaTimer.exe. In other words, don't install it!)

AVG Anti-Rootkit Free.

You will need to download each utility. After installing them, restart your computer. After the restart, open up NOD32 Anitvirus and update its security definitions file. After it has been updated, perform an in-depth scan on your entire computer.

After NOD finishes, exit the utility and open Malwarebytes. Update Malwarebytes' security definition files. Afterward run a full scan on your entire computer. After the scan finishes, remove anything found (restart if necessary).

After Malwarebytes finishes, open up Ad-Aware. Update Ad-Aware's security definition files. Afterward run a full scan. If anything is found, remove it and if necessary, restart your computer.

After Ad-Aware finishes, open up Spybot Search & Destroy. Update Spybot's files then exit Spybot. Now open up Spybot again and select the category, "Immunize." After the automatic scan finishes, select, "Immunize" at the top of the aplication. After immunization is complete, exit Spybot. Now open up Spybot, again. After Spybot loads run the scanner (Press, "Check for Problems"). After the scan finishes, remove anything found then restart if necessary.

After Spybot finishes, open up AVG Anti-Rootkit Free. After the application finishes loading, perform an in-depth scan of all hard-drives. If anything is found, remove it then restart your computer.

If the virus remains after following the steps above you will have to get your computer repaired as it only gets trickier from here.

Let me know how it turns out for you. Don't hesitate to let me know if you need any more assistance.

MacBook Software Updater - continually prompts to install an update

You're probably not actually flashing the firmware, but downloading the utility to do so. Follow these steps:
1. Quit all other open applications. Open the MacBook Pro EFI Firmware update which is in your Utilities directory

2. Click Shut Down in the MacBook Pro EFI Firmware Update window and wait for your computer to shut down.

3. Press and hold the power button on your MacBook Pro until the power indicator light flashes repeatedly, then release the power button to begin the update.

A status bar indicates the progress of the update.

Important: Do not interrupt the update.

Your computer restarts automatically when the update is completed and opens the MacBook Pro EFI Firmware Update.

4. Click OK, if the firmware is now up-to-date.
