ALL DEHUMIDIFIERS REQUIRE ROOM TEMPS TO BE AT LEAST 65 DEGREES AND A HUMIDITY OF AT LEAST 50 % TO OPERATE PROPERLY. ANYTHING LESS AND IT MAY FREEZE THE EVAPORATOR COILS. EVAPORATOR COILS WILL ALSO FREEZE IF THE COILS ARE DIRTY AND HAVE RESTRICTED AIR FLOW.TRY TAKING THE COVER OFF OF THE UNIT AND CLEANING BOTH SETS OF COILS INSIDE. THEY ARE COPPER OR ALUMINUM WITH FINS ON THEM.
ALSO CHECK THE FAN TO BE SURE IT IS RUNNING.
THAT WILL CAUSE AN OVERHEATING CONDITION AND WILL SHUT DOWN THE COMPRESSOR ALSO.

There is likely a switch operated by a float to turn that light on and turn off the compressor, sometimes manufactures use a rubber "O" ring on the float shaft and they can slip. take the cover off the pump and check the float or in some cases one of two floats are used. Once float turns the pump on and off and the second float shuts OFF the compressor and turns ON the full reservior light.

If the unit is titled forward at all, the "full bucket" "trip switch" will not trigger off as it should. Be sure the unit is on a flat, level surface, or leaning backward slightly--this also aids drainage through the drain tube, if that's your set-up.

Diane, the float valve in the left top of the bucket (it's styrofoam) is stuck and can't shut the unit off when the bucket is full. To help you solve this, I am providing a link to your Owners Manual that will help you with this problem You can download and print the manual for future reference Be sure to turn the Master ON/OFF Switch to OFF and unplug the unit, before attempting to solve this problem.
Hope this helped you to solve the problem. Please take a moment to rate my response to you.

SOURCE: The water won't run continuously
Some dehumidifiers don't require that the bucket be in place, when a drain hose is attached to the unit. I'm not sure that's the case with yours, because I'm unfamiliar with the Westpointe brand. You should also check the drain connection that the hose is connected to. It may be clogged, which forces the water into the bucket instead of draining through the hose. If you have something flexible like a long plastic Zip Tie, that can easily be run into the hose connection and slowly pulled back out, while rotating it should loosen any clogs. Be prepared for water to follow. Do not use a wire coat hanger to do this and be sure the unit is OFF and unplugged from the wall, before attempting it.
Hope this helped you to troubleshoot and solve the problem. Please let me know.
