Question about Brother MultiFunction Center MFC-440CN All-In-One InkJet Printer

Network connection lost

I purchased this printer for its network ability. I have a D-link DI-624 router and after a while the connection will be lost. I used static IP and I have to restart the printer or the router in order to get it back. I also have a NAS storage on this router and I had similar problem originally and the tech person told me to use static IP outside the DHCP range (e.g. while the DHCP range is to 199). That solves the drive problem completely. However, this does not help with the 440CN printer. I have tried two brother Network printer and both have the same problem. Anybody has any hint? Thanks very muuch. Felix

Re: Network connection lost

I too had an issue with the network connectivity of both a Brother MFC-420CN and a Brother MFC-440CN being lost after about an hour or so of inactvity.  I was also using a D-Link router (DI-524).  Called up Brother they said that it was likely the router, called up D-Link and they were useless.  Finally went out and bought a new Linksys router and voila, no more problem.  I've had over 24 hours of continuous network connectivity on my Brother printer and I expect that it will continue to last.

The only suggestion made was that there's some sort of inactivity timeout on the D-Link ports of the router I was using.  Since I had my printer set to static IP too it wasn't a DHCP lease issue, maybe some sort of power saving thing built into the router?  There were no settings that could be changed to deal with that though.

Search here: You may have to change the setting within the printer (see Handbook network).

How do I restore a lost connection from epson workforce 635 printer to mac ?

Try this. Unplug the printer and the computer. If it's a laptop you also remove the battery. Plug the printer into the AC socket and if nessary install the computer battery and plug the computer back in to the AC outlet and see if it recognizes the printer. This is essentially a reboot. If your using the printer through a network connection (router) make sure the router is working properly.

Lost my network printer connection

creating the network again would probably solve the issue with it because now you are changing up the hardware for the router. so you will have to set the permissons on the router and the permisons on the comuter to allow the connection to the printer the print share network.

looks to me you have the awnser to your own issue, if you list the router model and what operating system you are running I can give you a more indepth break down.

How to hook up a wireless printer to a computer

Does the printer also have some "wired" interface (parallel-port, or USB-port)?

If not, then you need to purchase a router with wireless capability:

1. Connect cable-modem (or DSL-modem) to the 'WAN' (or 'IInternet') port on the router.

2. Connect one of the 'LAN' ports on the router to the network-port on your computer.

3. Configure the wireless-adapter inside the router:
* set an SSID -- the "name" of your wireless network
* encryption-level -- use 'WPA' or 'WPA2'
* a password for your network

4. Configure the wireless printer to connect to that SSID, using the password

5. On the computer, click "Add Networked Printer"

6. Print a "test" page: computer -> wired -> router -> wireless -> printer

How do I set up a wireless printer. I am on a wireless network now. How do I make my printer wireless??

The HP Officejet 7310 has an optional bluetooth wireless adapter. If you purchased the option, you will need bluetooth connectivity at your computer end. Alternatively, you could purchase a third party wireless adapter.
Other than that, you will need to connect your printer to your router/wireless network then all computers will be able to print wirelessly to it through the router.
Hope this helps.

Need my laptop to communicate wireless to printer

If the printer does not have a built-in network card/print server then there is a couple of ways to do this.
If you have a desktop computer connected to the wireless router with a LAN cable, then connect the printer to the desktop computer and make this printer a shared printer on your network. This means that the desktop computer and printer needs to be on when you want to print from the laptop.
The other way is to purchase a print server, connect the printer to the print server and connect the print server with a LAN cable to the Wireless router.
If you don't have sufficient network ports on the wireless router then you need to purchase a hub. Then connect the hub and wireless router with a LAN cable and then the print server to the hub and other computers to the hub.
Setting up the wireless printing will depend upon which method you want to adopt and I can advise you when further when you are ready.

Network Connection (LAN) for HP 650C

Plug it directly into the router and set the printer up on your Win2k/Xp as a network printer via the new printer wizard. The router will allow it to pull an IP number and you will find it on the network that way. It does not have USB because it was meant as an office printer and the option was network adaptor when purchased. If you look at the card in it, you can see it can be swapped out for another adaptor.
