Question about Brother MultiFunction Center MFC-440CN All-In-One InkJet Printer

Network connection lost

I purchased this printer for its network ability. I have a D-link DI-624 router and after a while the connection will be lost. I used static IP and I have to restart the printer or the router in order to get it back. I also have a NAS storage on this router and I had similar problem originally and the tech person told me to use static IP outside the DHCP range (e.g. 192.168.1.22 while the DHCP range is 192.168.1.100 to 199). That solves the drive problem completely. However, this does not help with the 440CN printer. I have tried two brother Network printer and both have the same problem. Anybody has any hint? Thanks very muuch. Felix

I finally changed to another d-link router and the printer could keep the connection now. The new router is DIR-655. Still don't understand why my printer did not work with DI-624.

I too had an issue with the network connectivity of both a Brother MFC-420CN and a Brother MFC-440CN being lost after about an hour or so of inactvity.  I was also using a D-Link router (DI-524).  Called up Brother they said that it was likely the router, called up D-Link and they were useless.  Finally went out and bought a new Linksys router and voila, no more problem.  I've had over 24 hours of continuous network connectivity on my Brother printer and I expect that it will continue to last.

The only suggestion made was that there's some sort of inactivity timeout on the D-Link ports of the router I was using.  Since I had my printer set to static IP too it wasn't a DHCP lease issue, maybe some sort of power saving thing built into the router?  There were no settings that could be changed to deal with that though.

Search here: http://welcome.solutions.brother.com/bsc/public/us/us/en/faq/faq_list.html?reg=us&c=us&lang=en&prod=mfc440cn_all&Cat=8 You may have to change the setting within the printer (see Handbook network).

Try to power cycle the whole network and make sure that everything connected properly. Turn of the pc then the router and lastly the modem. Wait for 5 minutes then turn on the modem then router and pc. Modem should be connected to the internet port on the router and pc to the ethernet ports.

D-Link DI-624 AirPlus Xtreme G 2.4GHz Wireless router not connecting using the wireless point on it

The DHCP on your router isn't working properly. You should perform a hard reset on the router by finding the reset button on it. Take a pen or other small pointy object find find a tiny hole on the router. Press and hold this for 20-30 seconds. This will reset to factory settings and the password to the router will also be reset to its normal default.

Reconfigure the router as if you had just bought it new and it should work properly this time

This is from a DI-624 Router, and should be very similar to yours:

DI-624 problem with wireless network

Buy the N router! That is the only solution. My signal weakened and went from the whole home to less than two feet if that at times. I bought the N router and it worked just like the G one did when I first bought it. Ya think somebodies got the limited life span worked out?

DLink DI-624s - can't get Cisco VPN Client to connect.

The "Virtual Server" setting is designed to give the general public access to a network resrouce (web/ftp/media server) on your internal network. If your the VPN concentrator is external to your network (meaning you'll have to use the internet to connect to it), then you won't need to define a virtual server on the DI-624.

You'll just need to enable the IPSEC and PPTP VPN Passthrough which it sounds like you've already done this. I've run into some ISP's that block VPN connections out of their network. If you have the ability, try to directly connect your laptop into your cable/DSL modem in place of your router and see if you can make a VPN connection, if not contact your ISP, if you can then verify you enabled the VPN passthroughs because your router is blocking them.

GIve it a shot and let us know your results.
