Question about GOURMET LIVING Shopko 6 Quart Deep Skillet NO COLOR, Size 6 QT

Open Question

I bought a Gourmet Living electric frying pan last Christmas and it looks like I used it for 10 years. It has the non-stick surface and the non-stick stuff keeps peeling off. I am probably going to sand it down to get rid of the black non-stick surface. I never used any harsh tools while cooking in it. I always used plastic utensils. Is there anything you can use or how can you prevent the non-stick surface from getting wrecked? The Model #: on mine is G726 Model# 83139. It was made in China and the Date says 1208. I also bought two more for Christmas as presents and I know they don't use theirs as much as I do, but can you tell me how to take care of this problem? My daughter has a Regal Electric frying pan and has used hers for over 8 years and it gets a lot of use and hers has non-stick, but hers is in excellent shape. I sure would like an answer to this! I use everything a lot, but I wonder what I am doing to my family if this black non-stick keeps coming off. dissatisfied customer: Karen

EVER SINCE i HAD THIS SKILLETT, ALL FOOD TYPES STICK TO THE BOTTOM OF THE PAN, HELP!

it is probably not a non-stick surface
having said that the cooking oil you use has a lot to do with sticking to the pan
If the instructions are correct you do not use spray oil, cooking oil or anything on a non-stick surface as It ultimately removes the non-stick quality of the teflon surface
If you must use some additive then rice oil is the best as it is supposed not to affect the surface of the pan and is better for you than cholesterol containing oils

THE GREEN FRY PAN DOES NOT CLEAN AS SHOULD BE.WE;;

I'm convinced that actually all these "non-stick" pans are scam. All of them look very nice at first and then they start to stick and get black. I have the same problem with rather expensive ceramic nonstick "marvel" I bought last year.
Some time ago I bought a really good nonstick pan but it is very big - 15"! After I found out that it was what I've been looking for, never could find the same type in a smaller scale.
So, I presume, just should continue testing till we get the real one

Is it possible to restore the teflon surface of teflon coated pans on which the surface has become scratched (in this case Jamie Oliver Tefal Frying pans)

No. There is no effective repair procedure for the pan once the teflon coating has become scratched down to the bare metal or begins peeling off.

You can continue to use the pan safely, but the non-stick surface will not be as effective as an undamaged coating would be.

Never use metal forks / spatulas / utensils on a teflon coated pan.

Instead try using thermal rated plastic, teflon, or wooden spatulas which will not scratch the pan coatings.

Good luck.

I have a black sticky residue on the non stick surface of my cooks essentials 12 inch frying pan. I can not clean it off and the non stick properties of the pan is gone, I think due to this surface...

Go to epinions.com, type your product and find you are not alone. Besides, as there is no cure to baldness there is no such thing as a perennial non stick pan. All coatings invented eventually succumbs to the wear and tear produced by temperature changes, contact with food and related chemistry, detergents, scrapping, etc. Consider the possibility that some of that non stick material may be ingested unconsciously.

Cannot get lid off of fry pay.

Dear Sir:
Thank you for writing back about my stuck fry pan. Guess what, I did it. First, I put it in the freezer and by physics of course steel contracts. So I waited about 1 and half hour and then I took it out and w/a steel spatula I pried it open. I guess it was overly pressurised. I was a happy camper. Love my Presto Pride pans I have had them since I was in the Marine Corps back in the 60's. Went to a demonstration in someone's home. Paid a pretty penny for it then but look how long it lasted. Thank you again for listening to me. Sincerely, Lorraine J.
